Any Tesla owners here?

They're neat cars but not sustainable on multiple levels.

Fwiw, gasoline cars are not sustainable on many levels as well

No interest in "flaming you" LOL !! but I am trying to learn something here, (cost per mile, resale value , battery life etc..)

If you wouldn't mind, what car was your last commuter? What is the approximate cost of a Tesla Model 3 , did you buy new or used?

You can look up the price for a model3 dual motor performance with autopilot. Very close in price to my previous car with the tax rebates. My commuters are usually luxury and sporty with some utility as well. That being said I don’t always purchase the most economical car. Wanted something that is fun to drive. Over a 6 year period I’ll save close to $25000 in gas minus $3900 if using pay as you go supercharger. With solar panels and charging off peak hours that $3900 could go down considerably. Battery life is expected to be least 8 years or more. I’m not too worried about resale honestly.

2008 S4 Audi Avant 4.2L V8 naturally aspirated. Last year of this model with a V8 and the last year it was imported to North America. Only 150 shipped to US. Rare car. Never any issues but mileage is kinda high. Will have to decide to keep it or auction it.

Brilliant I’d say. 1-2 gallons of gas in that generator could fuel that car 100-200 miles :poke:

No more ironic than our electricity coming from natural gas or coal.

These cars are not eco friendly as they are trumped up to be. We all know that. Toyota Pious owners love their cloud of smug. The Tesla’s are just shameless about it lol

Thanks for the reply daves66valient!

So the nearest I can come to pricing for a tesla 3 in Canada is 45,600 (base) before incentives. So lets be conservative and say most will be sold in the 50 grand range before tax, delivery etc..

At present, I would approximate the highest volume of cars sold in North America are in the 17-25,000 range. Also these vehicles are sold with the most factory incentives and the lowest interest rates. Even with the Government incentives (which are being dropped in more and more Provinces/States ( bad taste in taxpayers mouths subsidizing these expensive cars) , the cost per mile/kilometer is just too high for the average car buyer. As well, the infrastructure needed to support these vehicles is both very big and very expensive. There will be no retail stations, you would not be able to make them large enough or accessible enough. Try to imagine cars lined up at these charging stations waiting to recharge !! Who's going to build them ? Not Mobil or Shell, that I can guarantee you !!

Guess what? I think you are better off driving a 6cyl A-body! (shameless plug for my favorite car LOL !! ) They can be tuned to be very fuel efficient and even better from an emissions viewpoint by just upgrading to electronic ignition and fuel injection. And... we are the original recyclers! By keeping these vehicles running and recycling the damaged and rusted cars for parts we use less of the worlds natural resources. As for cost per mile/kilometer I can buy and wear out at least 5 A-body's for the cost of one Tesla based on its 50k cost. Repair cost ? Everyone on this site knows how little it takes to keep these cars running. Plus, you get to look cool because you're not driving a generically styled "cookie cutter" style. Resale? I wonder where the Tesla will be in 50 years? The A-bodies will probably still be around looking as cool as ever, the remains of the tesla will be a dish liquid bottle or plastic siding.

I did a research paper about 2 years ago for business model in my accounting and business classes. After you pay the initial cost of the car in 5 to 7 years you have to replace the batteries,(depending on weather and charging systems) and the cost is about 10 to 15 Grands. I had to call Tesla and actually talked to one of the engineers.
The second bad thing was that the batteries (at that point) cannot be refurbished and have to go into a landfill. not so environmentally friendly.
Now for the financial. They are in debt, all the loans are coming due and they are so underwater that they are either not going to be able to find more loans, or the rates are going to be so high that they will not be able to recoup no matter how many cars they sell. I have been watching the stock, and I sold mine about 3 months ago right before the fall and the manipulation stating he is going private because of all the chatter, and the lawsuits. I have been reading that investors are shorting the stock at below 100 a share by feb mar because that is when all the loans are due.

I hope you all will research and update me on anything that has changed. I wouldn't mind learning more.

Congrats!
These are impressive cars & it is impressive how far Tesla has brought electric cars to being practical.
Although Tesla does not look to be a viable business without huge tax breaks.
Their only profitable portion was selling emissions credits to other auto makers which is silly because of the negative environmental impact the used batteries have.

Now that the easy part is done Elon Musk will lose all interest and leave the really difficult work of making a profitable business to others.
I expect them to be purchased by another auto maker, maybe from India.
