Just got my new SCAT superlight crank. This is an RB crank with 4.250 stroke and 8 bolt flange. It weighs 64 lbs which is about 5 or 6 lbs lighter than usual. Nice looking crank, I like the extra features on the superlight version.

Andy, pretty sure my Molnar 4.250LD crank weight same as my 360SB 4.00 Eagle crank which was 63# and the Molnar is not considered light weight. Different alloys between Scat and Molnar?

Was expecting a knife edged crank. Weired lightening location to me ! Could have done the same thing w/ the knife edge and to my way of thinking , it would be stronger. All comments will be interesting.

Not bad mouthing ur crank tho ---------

are those the ones you see with 16 mallory slugs set in them?

It's a small Ferd, those POS's are externally balanced and making them internal is a PITA. But they're physically small, which why people like them for baby classes with no cubes. S/F....Ken M

Cool. Do they make a 6 bolt version? Is there a HP rating on it?

I suppose the best way to not lighten the wallet so much would be with super light rods as well.

Doesn’t Crower have Ti rods available?
(Cost not a factor in that statement/question!)

SCAT makes the superlight crank in lots of different configurations. 6 bolt or 8 bolt and different strokes. I had a SCAT superlight in the low deck 470 engine that I just sold. That one was lighter than this one since it had extra machine work. The 470 crank was gun drilled down the center and the rear flange was profile machined.

Andy , whose rear main seal cap is that , or did u make it ??

I run a 440Source 505 stroker kit with their ultralight crank. It was advertised at around 5 or 6 lbs lighter than the normal crank they sell. It's in a stock 440 block, aluminum main caps, ARP main studs and a 440Source main girdle. My line of thought was that with the stock block the less rotating weight the better. 2 seasons on it now, 12.8 CR and 112 octane, works well.
Initially had a leaking rear seal on the dyno, replaced the seal and clocked it at 6 & 12 oclock position, no further leaks. Using the stock seal retainer, did have to do a little clearancing on it I recall.

Probably a Mancini rear main seal cap but I'm not positive. The engine shop I work with does a lot of Mopar stroker motors these days and sometimes I lose track of which parts end up on which build.

Damn, that is an engineered crank, gun drilled? Holy Frijole.

I tried one of hughs engines main seal caps, couldn`t make it work w/ the studs no matter what I did. They told me I must have something weird. I told them I put the orig back on , no problems. They did reimburse my $ , good people as far as I`m concerned. Only thing is, their shipping charges are way to high.

The stock seals have always been the best for these big blocks. I don't know why.

I am a 470 guy my self. Very nice combo for sure.

putting a big rb wedge together 4.5 bryant crank , still seeing which bore i can go . its a 78 casting hm ind block , so i can bore it 4.4 if it cleans up at that . why molnar's rods and not carrillo's rods . thought they were better .

With all that tungsten in there, absolutely. Be prepared to press all that stuff out. S/F....Ken M
