Hi, if you have been following Dany's intro to bracket racing on the forum you may remember we swapped the 7.25 for a 8.25 early this summer.
It was a 2.45 ratio open and we switched it to a 3.55 sure grip.
The first set of used gears would not pattern correctly and were noisy.
The second, new set patterned the same odd way and were also noisy.
We ran it all summer this way and had a blast!! But now I would like to correct it this winter while the racing is down.
So what we have learned the hard way is you CANNOT put lower (higher numerically) gears in a 2.45 housing. The pinion is not only moved over but also down and will not give a good pattern.
The '66 Barracuda in question has been converted to BBP so we will need a BBP rear end.

Thinking our choices are:
Another 8.25 with the proper housing and then sell the one with the taller gears?
See if someone on here has an 8.75 A body housing (even a cut down C/B/E housing, not building a show car)?
Or do I pony up and just do a 8.8 swap? (easiest to do locally but more work)

So, what does everyone have laying around that they aren't using?
The closer to Cincinnati/ Northern Ky the better.

Thanks so much guys!!

Daughters first weekend drag racing!!

Might be a bit far from you but I have a 73 A Body 8.25 empty housing that takes 2.71 or higher numerically (2.94, 3.21, 3.55 etc) gears. Have a Sure Grip for the same housing with a 3.21 ring installed. I have the matching pinion.

Where and how much?

I have an 8 1/4" here with a 3.90 from a 1978 Super Coupe.

The perches would have to be moved to work in an A-body.

I have not opened it up to see if it has a sure-grip or a spool yet.

Correct me if im wrong. I thought it was the carrier that was different on the 8.25, not the housing.

Am in Strasburg VA. Are you Interested in just the bare housing and axles or some combination of housing, SG, brand new 3.55 gears for the same.
Price me the Housing and axles.
It's like a 16 hour drive, so I would hate to pass on a deal though so price me the 3.21's and SG too.
Is this rear end together now or stripped already?

The F is wider, but not by a lot. 9/16" of an inch or so per side.
Our car is an early A ('66 Cuda) and it's running 235/65/15's on "7 wheels.
I doubt it has an extra 9/16's per side as the tires rubbed all the high spots off the undercoating on the outside of both wheel tubs as it is.

We do. It's still in the car.
I asked because I would like to squeeze a bit more mpg from my 73 318 four door valiant driver.
If any traders are out there I have a 8.75 housing and axles, from a 67 B body, 1969 dart grill with signals and bezels, one extra set of signals.

Hummm, this concerns me. I was planning to step up to 235s on my '65. Are the tires rubbing the inside of the fender? Is the 8.25" rear end a bit wider than a 7.25"/8.75"?

TIA

Here is a recent photo of Ruby Rose with 215s on the rear. It looked like 235s would be no issue. I better take some careful measurements.

Thank you.
