A few pics of barracuda project.

Yes I agree, single stage is not very forgiving. That’s why i will being using base clear for the rest of the project. Even when we reshoot the trunk I will paint base clear this time. Added a few more pics of sanded trunk and how some of the mods turned out in paint. Having problems loading photos will try later.

Buford, watching your tread, I wish I was as far along as you.
Why can't you buff the single stage? If your painter used hardner (activator) you should be able to sand and buff out the nibs.

Looks good though!

Was under the impression that you can’t buff single stage paint. Hopefully your right, would be nice if’s person can. Maybe others on this site might have some knowledge they could share on this topic.

It is my understanding you can't cut and buff single stage metallic, solid color you are good to go.
Two stage, metallic or solid no problem.

Just looking at your build. Fantastic job and great eye for details! Especially love the chin and rear deck lid spoiler. Just a tip if you haven't already thought of it. Put the trunk rubber in place temporarily, install the taillights and the upper and lower deck lid trim and then adjust the gaps between the trunk lid and the quarters. This is one ***** to get right if there is misalignment and much better done before final paint. Look at most restored 68 Barracudas and you will see this alignment off and the lower decklid moulding standing off the taillight housing about 1/4 to 1/2"

Thanks for the compliments and the suggestions on the trunk alignment. Will take your advice on this when I get to that stage.

My painter said the clear turned out so good, he hardly has to buff it. Notice the smile on his face.

The fresh paint looks sooo nice.
Nothing’s like a fresh paint on a fastback fish.
Now the fun begins.
Can’t wait for further progress.

I’m at work and I just walked through the whole thread. This is awesome. Following to see how it goes.

Things have been going very slow since I got it home, hope to get things rolling in the new year. Had a two of my brother sick and hospitalized which became priority over my hobbie. Then came the Christmas holidays, figured I would just start fresh in the new year. On a positive note my, new 6.4 has arrived too the dealership that I ordered it from. Had about a eight week wait for that, but still haven’t received the engine computer and harness. There is now a new part order number for it, I guess there have been some changes made to them. Will post updates as they come. Picture of car on it way home from paint shop, and our first snow fall. My luck.lol

I started a new job in Late October. I understand your priority shift. I used to work for CARDONE where we remanufactured ECMs and Dodge is notorious for revision changes. Your going to love the combo. I’m to the point on my build where I will be turning to the interior. Let me know what you are up to when you get that far. Looks like I might get inside the car before you do. I absolutely love the descrete rear tail fin.

Oh thanks on the spoiler compliment, I must say it looks even better in real life. Lots of car guys up here just love it. Was just going with a certain look, not really knowing how things will turn out until the car is finally complete. Please post pics of your interior build I would be very interested in that.

Had to bend up three pieces, trying to get the same radius. Don’t have a metal brake, just use what you have I guess. Then pick the best two.

Your manual metal forming skills are awesome. I’d be grateful if you would share the guage metal you used and some of the techniques of how you achieved the shape of the chin and rear spoiler with “the tools you have”. Thanks that is awesome work.

Used 18 gauge mild steel, probably could have used 20. 20 is a much easier too wrk with. Too get the radius for the the chin spoiler I just marked the center of metal I was using, then bent it over a peace of electrical conduit. After the metal mostly shaped, i clamped it with plywood on each side and finished the bend with c clamps. There is a easier way if you have access to a metal brake. If you just loosen off the brake edge the same on both sides, you get a nice consistent round bend instead of being sharp. One side of my chin spoiler was bent by hand and the other was on a brake. It took two try’s too match the hand built one. Sure would be nice to own a metal brake, life would be a lot easier. My rear spoiler was totally made by hand, plywood and clamps. Also used a little heat when bending. When I bent the rear spoiler back towards the car a clamp a 4 in pipe to my work bench over the metal. This gave me a nice gentle bend that was desired.

Thanks for taking the time to write out the process and sharing the pictures. I wish I had space for a work spacelike yours. I’m going to try building the chin spoiler first following your process. I will buy 2-3 times of the material needed as practice. Wish me luck. Thanks again for taking the time to document the process.

Sure you can make a nice chin spoiler, just take you time. Also I would make it in two pieces, then cap off the ends. Another thing I would recommend is bend both at the same time, so they are easy to duplicate. If you have any question just pm me.
