Hello
I need some help here, just about to buy new rims for next yr and found some nice rims for sale at jegs.
I wanted to know can I fit 15 x 8 wheels with 4.5 beck space on the car ?
All stock in the rear when it comes to leafs and frame... Nothing moved in etc.
In going to go with the 15 x 4 front (cant recall their backspace for the front, but I'm thinking that won't be a problem) outs just the back rims I'm worried about.
While I'm asking, anyone know what the front should be ?

Thanks.

One easy trick that you can do to put your mind at ease:
Mount up some stock wheels and tires and get under the car with a tape measure. Look around and see how much clearance there is between the tire and leaf springs and between the tire and outer wheel edge at the quarter panel. Chances are with stock wheels and tires, there will be a LOT of clearance. Then you can theoretically "add" width to arrive at what will fit.
Example:
A 14x4 wheel that has 3 inches of clearance on the inside to the leaf springs could be 2 inches wider and still clear by a comfortable margin. Same principle goes for the clearance to the outside. Add these numbers to an existing wheel and you get the idea of what fits.
I have fit 15x7 wheels in an early A body with some room to spare. A 15x8 fits but you have to be really careful about the tire. The diameter cannot exceed 25-26 inches or the tire wants to contact the bottom edge of the wheel opening at the front. This limits you to a 235-60-15 as far as height.

Here's my combo...you might find as I did that 15x4 front rims are, in my opinion, a bit too skinny and limits your tire choices. I found 15x6's perfect and the 215's fill out the wheel well nicely...but ultimately it's up to you and your taste.
Post your wheel and tire combos.

Yeah...I was somehow thinking a 64-66 since they have the smallest wheel openings but a 67-69 can take a 15x10 if you are willing to take the tire a bit beyond!

It's a 69 but I've left the rear stock, no leaf movement, all stock.
Was told 15 x 8 with 4.5 backspace will fit that's what I wanted to know.
Also the front are 15 x 4 with 1.75 backspace, please tell me that they will fit.
Thanks.

I have 15x8 4.25 backspace cragars on my 69 cuda rear with 235-15 tires. My car sits pretty high in the back. They fit well with extra room. I probably could have gone to a 245 with no issue. My suspension is stock except for ss type leaf springs.

Thanks for the response, I have now 275 x 60 x 15 in the rest now, with stock stellies (i believe they are 15 x 7 inches) but what I was concerned with is if 15 x 8 rims will fit with 4.5 inch backspace.
Hopefully they will fit from what I've been told but I wad just asking here to kind of validate that because of the peoples experiences with said model car.
You have a lot of MOPAR board around the net but it seems like all the scholars in A body cars have studied and graduated from FABO University. They have majored with pure and applied sciences in Barracuda, Dart, Duster and everything else in between A & B and C.
So if I'm going to get an answer I know it will be by someone with credentials, let alone experience.
Not only will the academia come out by so well the hands on results.
Thanks to you and everyone else for any input.

275 is already 10.8" at the tread, the rim width won't matter at this point. If it were going to rub it would have by now

Wouldn't the backspace make a difference, that's what worried me, just in case the stock wheelies have a different backspace and now the new rims worth 4.5 backspace make the tires touch on account of the rings going forward ,(outwards to the fender) and the tires touch.
That's what worried me.
Thanks

I'm running a 15x8 with 4.5" BS (275/60-15) on the back of my 68 Barracuda with no problem (Stock suspension)...all things being equal, you should be fine.

275/60/15's on a 10" wide with 3-1/2" BS. All stock HD leaf at stock location and the standard 10" X 1-3/4" brakes. Inner fender lip would still be an issue for this tire even with a 4-1/2" BS rim.
IMO, 15" X 8" with 4-1/2" BS works as long as no old school T-bars are used. Not sure about spring clamps.

OK this is what I want to ask what if the Rim is 10 inches wide but with 4.5 inch Backspace will it fit?
Also, is there any other backspace on a 10 inch Rim that will fit on said cars or is that (10 inches ) the widest Rim one can fit.... With stock chasis set up

The one inch difference BS from 3.5" to 4.5" for my 275/60/15's will still cause me to have clearance issues with the inner fender lip. A narrower tire can help. A rolled up lip may as well. A stiff, higher stance is yet another option.

I believe you want about 1/2" tire clearance to the spring. I'm sure some folks cut it closer though.

There are jigs available to calculate or you can make your own......

I see why you are the infamous Famous Bob
lol
All kidding aside, that's what I got and mentioned in the thread (with 4.5 BACKSPACE)
I just asked if a wider Rim would have fit on account of some folks saying they had larger rims and they fit.
That's all
Once again I tip my hat to all the wonderful, helpful and caring members willing to share their time and experience with me. A total stranger.
Thanks to all of you.

PS My offer still stands any help needed with cadavers, corpses or embalming. I'm your man.

I would measure both the left and right side.I have seen 1/2 inch or more difference. Just my two cents
