I'm replacing all the glass with lexan windows.
All glass, (except rear window)door regulators, driver and passenger seats, front bumper and brackets.
So far a gross weight reduction of 194 lbs.
Hoping to see a high 9.40 time slip in the spring.

All glass is for sale below.

When your ready I'd like to see the install. I'm going all lexan soon.

Are you gonna do the seat belt side window trick?

What about the rear quarter glass? You going fixed on those? I'd realy like to loose the regulator but not sure how to make the window go up and down?

Thanks

I took the buckets out of my 65 for carpet and about herniated myself. Them are some heavy suckers!

What is the side window seat belt trick?
The quarter glass was already fixed in this car. No back regulators.
I'll post pics of the progress when I get the lexan.
Probably wont do it till mid January.

The deck lid is a surprisingly heavy piece as well.
We'll see about that later.

The hemi cars used a seat belt to hold the windows shut. Bolt one half to the door and the other half to the bottom channel that the window sits in. Feed that out next to the lexan.
Pull on the belt, window goes up. Buckle it to the other half to keep it up

You only get all up or all down but that's better than fixed. Fixed is to dam hot for me...

One of my friends bought an old '69 dart drag car. It has seat belt window regulators on it. They work great!

Oh, ok.
I removed the vent window frame and everything else in the door.
I'm actually working on some thing with aluminium rod and springs.

We used snaps, liter than buckles.

Have you went to golass fenders, hood, doors and decked yet?

I'd do that way before I went lexan.

I already have a glass hood.
I dont think there is that much difference in weight between steel and glass fenders.
Deck lid is very heavy. I may do that later.

I went the other way several years ago and it was the best thing I ever did but I’m old. I took off and sold my fiberglass doors and painted two stock ones with wind up windows. Make a pass and wind down the windows. Drive it in the trailer and climb out the window and tie it down for the ride home.

Glass fenders......

You do not want to know how much work went into the last set of glass fenders we did... we had to fab ALL the mounts for them, then I dont know a hundred hours of body work?

They were SO far from even fitting it was not funny. The molds were not the same side to side. The one side was so bad that we literally ground all the way through the fender built up the inside and ground out even more.

I can tell you one thing for dam sure, NEVER AGAIN!
I hate working with fiberglass. As long as I'm alive no more fiberglass parts will come through the door of our shop.

I'd rather go old school and just skin the trunk, doors and hood WAY faster, just as light and its steel.

No itchy ichy!

Bumpers and the tank like brackets are very heavy. forgot to mention those.

I painted mine, but I have read that you can have them chromed.

The fenders are really pretty light. My black Duster has steel fenders and is all tied together. 4 bolts (90 seconds) and it’s off.

Man that would be handy !

It sure makes things easier. I can't get a lift in my shop because of height so I found a Kwik-lift that gets my cars up 2 feet or so. At 62 years old it makes it great for being under the car but when up top doing stuff like transmission bolts there's about 5 inches of the ramp to stand on. With the frontend off its a much easier job. Dentist appointment this morning but I will try to post pictures later. I made up some wood blocks and black iron pipe so I can remove the front by myself with a couple of ratchet straps.

Cant get a lift in mine either/7 ft ceiling. I didn`t build it, it was a carport before I changed it into a 16x38 ft garage. Too low of a ceiling, and too narrow ,but it is what it is. At 72, laying on my back ain`t hordes of fun anymore either !

I found a local one with ever option even the heavy duty coasters for 900.00 so even up this high helps. at least now I can use a creeper. LOL

I gotta say making the front clip removable is great. It makes working on things so much better.
Normally I just tilt mine out of the way but for certain thing you cant beat just lifting the entire thing off. Mine is also held on with 4 bolts.

I can relate to both you guys. My garage is only 20&x30 with 8.5 ceiling but I put a twin scissor pad lift in about 6 years ago.
Not the best pic but you get the idea. It is completely flush with the floor when not in use. I thought it was perfect for a small garage.
