I just finished installing a Hurst 3 speed universal shifter into my 67 Barracuda. It had been 3 on the tree but I was missing all the linkage so I decided to go with a floor shifter. It took all day to install because nothing fit. I expected some problems but nothing like I experienced. I ended up using only one of the brackets that came with it and had to highly modify 2 others to beef it up. The directions that came with it were next to useless. The biggest problem was to keep an opening for the speedo cable which worked out well with the one bracket I did choose to use. In the end I did get done and I'm happy with the results. I just need to finish up the sheet metal welding and call it done. I'll post a picture as soon as I get under there again.

I'd like to hear if anyone else has done one of these with their 3 speed manual trans.

Hurst has sometimes gone to using generic, imported hardware and linkage in some cases. Are you sure it was all 100% Hurst? Pictures will help, if you ever post them.

My dad bought a Hurst 'universal shifter' for my first 65 Barracuda. I dont know WTH this thing was meant for but surely it wasnt for an automatic!!! Just a straight pole shifter with a slight bend back like a pistol grip and a T handle. The bottom was literally a pivot on the floor and the thing extended through the floor and attached straight to the shifter arm linkage. No reverse lock out, no park indicator, just a stick out the floor. I had to pull it back and bump it up twice to find D in a hurry. Also threw it into R a few times driving, luckily the 727(!) just stalled the motor when I did that.

I put one of those in a 66 Ranchero with a straight 6 and was really happy with it.
Being adjusted correctly makes a big difference in how much happy there is.:D
Got it on the first try though.
