Slantys have a tendency to have oil coke up on dist shaft and lock it up breaking the gear. Nylon gear prevents it eating the camshaft gear when shaft binds up. Plenty of slantys running around with pieces of nylon teeth in the oil pan. Ever change a slanty cam w engine in the car? It involves removing radiator and grille to get it out. Its a long sucker.
I was able to snake it through the valence on a 65, but I agree, it is a long sucker. Nylons on Ebay are like $7 but you have to drill the hole. Tip: use a soldering iron to make a pilot hole, that nylon is slippery.
