Back in the early 70's, I planned on a '65 dart wagon as a gasser. When it came time to mount a new rear, springs and slicks, I found that the wheelwell and the forward lower end of the rear wheelwell was in the way. Sold that car for a MP Barracuda. Came across another wagon recently and was thinking of the same project. Moving the front spring hanger 2" back could give me that extra space. Anyone solved this problem. I'd like to keep it a leaf spring car.

Right now, I'm going by the spacing of a factory 14" wheel and tire(I know the 13" standard). The spacing between the the outside of the tire(facing forward) and the most front of the rear wheelwell doesn't look like much spacing. A 15" wheel with a 29" tall slick and there will be major rub with the wheelwell and the outside sheet metal. Considering that the wheelbase is 106, that's a tight fit.

Are the wagon rear wheel openings and wheelhouses much different than the sedans and hardtops?

If all you need to do is move the rear end rearward you should be able to do it with longer front hangers. I thought Mancini made them. They do just not for A bodies. You might have to lengthen your driveshaft depending on how much you go. manciniracing.com

I'm looking for someone that has done this. I'd refer to have a plan and buy/fabricate what I need. I have a very tight time frame to work with. Can't make this into a project.

Joe B had 275 60 15 on the back of his 63 wagon with no mods
