Hi everybody:

I'm just curious who do you all think makes the best cable kick-down kit? How many different companies are there out there?

I personally like the lokar kit. Real simple and clean looking. Have set it up on many different cars over the years and it’s always performed great.

As far as how many different ones are out there. Who knows. Watch out for the cheap knock offs. The cables and fittings are not as good as the name brand ones in a lot of cases.

Chrysler factory magnum trucks and b vans. It is the same cable that comes in some kits. From a donor get the cable, transmission brackets, transmission TV arm and throttle body bracket. You will have to mod the throttle body bracket, or fab a new one to fit your carb. The lower end all bolts right on. It works great, and costs next to nothing from pick and pull. Richie, if you want, come over and look at my car. I have done this.

Put a Bouchillion on. Easy to install, works great. Don't remember if it's more money than a Lokar, which is also a fine unit.

The bouchillon kit works great and easy to adjust. Worth the extra cost over the lokar.

i've heard the BPE one works well too...

i just prefer the cleaner look of the lokar..

I bought the Lokar bracket and got a cheapo off eBay for around $20. I later realized you can use the same cable from a hardware or bike store (brake cable) and install a stopper on the end also available at the bike store. Trim with cutoff wheel and your golden.

I just did the Lokar from Summit like $70 bucks. If you want my opinion- a tad hokey. stainless steel braid looks Pro Street- dated.
318 4 bbl and 904 set up. it works and is simple enough but for the cost, I'm not a huge fan.
Also just for the record, I made my own carb. side mounting bracket as the fancy one they sell also needs their brand throttle cable.
I'm not schooled in that enough to talk about it. I used the factory throttle cable.

I'm running the Lokar cable with the stock throttle cable and real nice brackets from AR Engineering for the cables and the throttle return spring. Also made a bracket for a return spring for the tranny lever. It all works great. Holley 4bbl, 727.

The Lokar setup is engineered nicely.

While the Lokar is a nice kit finish and layout wise, it does add more resistance and takes a little extra effort to operate the throttle vs. the oem rod and bellcranks I've used

are you using an entire lokar kit? you know, throttle and kickdown cables , lokar brackets at the carb and return spring kit? or is it some Frankensteined together thing? if its all lokar you have something hooked up or run wrong if its harder to push the throttle down then a factory set up... every lokar set up i've ever installed operated smoother and has less resistance then a factory set up...

I believe you're right on that.
I was running a complete full Lokar, the throttle is also partly a fab job, with a long rod up to a bellcrank at the front of my van. With the KD disconnected, my throttle operated smooth and easy, when adding the KD it definitely required a little noticeable effort going full throttle. The KD was hooked up and routed correctly per the instructions. The kd lever length (the lever I was using was a little shorter in order to match the carb) and the spring in the valve body were likely (now with a clearer mind this morning) the reasons why it was slightly stiffer, not the cable. So I stand corrected. And as church lady said "never mind":BangHead:
