So I am in need of some help. All mock-up is done & I am in final final assembly of the motor.
When I was checking for push rod length I noticed that the little itty bitty oil hole above the oil band was ever so slightly coming out of bore. Just a slight cavity with the right light and right angle you can see it. It is my understanding that this isn't good. Engine is 383 .060 over stroked to 496. Standard lifter bores (nothing special done to them).
Lifters I have are Bamm big block 383/400. Is this a huge deal Do I need new lifters
any help is much appreciated.

A picture please, if you can that is.

Picture does not come up.

No just 2. This particular bore is the worst. The other bore is not nearly as bad

Just two. I am not sure I would worry about.

How's your oil pressure cold/hot, what oil pump you running? 65'

The way I understand it that is just a feed hole to the push rod. So if I am not using push rod oiling, oil pressure shouldn't suffer. Correct?

Did you buy the lifters new ? did they come with any info ? Call the mfg.? Those are the questions I would be having with who ever I got the parts from. Unless someone here has the exact setup you have, it is just a guess. What if someone here says" its ok, go for it" and then boom ! Who will you blame ?

Install the lifters with the oil hole pointing up, it will help 'burp' any air out of the lifters so they can fully fill with oil...

Otherwise it will take more time to purge any air out of the lifter that may get in there while sitting/not running...

I had a simular problem with a SB. I found it while priming and rotating crank by hand. Prime it up and check for oil leaks there.

Yes I did in fact buy them new. I purchased them from a very reputable machine shop in So. CAL.

Did you ask your "reputable" machine shop wtf ? What did they say ? If it is a problem, did they accept responsibility and are taking care of it ?

So I talked to the mfgr.Since I am not pushrod oiling it will have no effect.

Send the cam back to the maker and have them lower the base circle .030 or .040. Problem solved.

I agree...... you’re good, in this instance.
But I’m kinda surprised the holes get exposed.
If you needed them to pushrod oil, you’d have a problem.

It looks as if I fall in the 10% club that has a couple deeper chamfers. Like I it is only 2 bores.

Well, I would make sure your pressure is gonna be ok. Prime it on the stand and remember it will be lower when hot.

What did you do to remedy the problem ?
I had bought 3 sets of solid roller lifters til i found a set that had a lower skirt. I had comp cams, crane $800 lifters and Morel. The Morel lifters had the lower skirt and fix the major leaks. Still have them. I first tried the comps then the cranes with a no good. Sent them back to summit for a refund once i found the Morels. Morels are great lifters and i think i read some where that Howards solid roller lifters for small mopar where Morels. One more thing. Mine leaked out the bottom, not the top.
