HEI All in one

-
I used one that was similar. The pickup died in one week and the distributor wasn't serviceable. I would make sure you can get parts.

got one of the 45 dollars ones from ebay in my 88 d250...going on 3 yrs now.

About 3 years into mine too, but it's in a Ford 351M. Runs dang good.

Not sure the coil pack will fit on an A body -- had TSP dizzies on my 350 C10 and 360 A body both failed will never buy their product again

I think fitment in a-body varies with which a-body and which type wiper motor.

When my cheapie chinese HEI dist. died. I went back to a normal Mopar electronic dist. and then used the HEI module in place of the stock ignition box. I rigged this up as a temporary solution with plans later to make it look nicer, that was months ago.

This definitely an option. Right now I don't have a distributor other than the stock magnum without advance. I have a couple of ECM units but I don't know if they are good. Right now we're just trying to get things running, rolling and stopping.

OK SB using a mopar ECU? I might have a core to send you if you want for the ride. Not using the Magnum ECU?

Had one of those all in one china distributors.
That was enough.
Normal street driven fine.
Couldnt set timing properly. High rpm
breakup.
Hard hot restart.
Finally module burnt.

Not a fan of them at all. I like the GM 4 pins actually though and the petronix for aftermarket. It is all in the curve anyhow. That's the whole trick.

We don't have the computer and converting to carburetor. By ECM I was referring to the box (orange in my case). So basically we have nothing right now. What core do you Have? Distributor?

Yes I rebuild them but sounds like you could use one to get running. Any Idea what curve you might need?

Man it's been years since I've curved a dist. It's stock for now, so we're going to give it a good check, clean it up, paint it and drop it in once we get the parts together. This is my son's first car so I don't want to hand him a rocket, and I've even considered torturing him with a 2bbl but that's just mean spirited. :)

If you look at my posting history, actually you've chimed in on a few of my threads I think. We started with trying to get the 170 /6 currently in it running but it's been a nightmare. One thing after another with it. I'm sick if shoving money down the carb (gone through two of those) so we're going this route. This was the longer term goal anyway, we just decided to move ahead sooner rather than later.

We've got the following for the swap so far.

Early A V8 exhaust manifolds
Early A V8 center-link (arriving)
Early A V8 (273) torsion rods (arriving)
Early A AC/V8 cable throttle assembly (still need to find a pedal with a good "hinge")
98 Magnum (with flex plate)

The rest is relatively easy to find so it's down to making sane decisions and scrounging second hand sources. That's why I was asking about these all in one units. Nice tight little package to get things going. I do like the HEI conversions, and we were going to end up doing that in the slant, but here we are.... Seems like a nice little package. Stock parts, easy to source, get rid of the ballast and BAM, HEI goodness.

I suppose what I should do is start a thread with the car etc.

I'm running the stock vacuum advance dizzy without the advance hooked up, using the coil from a 98 Silverado with a 4 pin module. Runs great and parts are available.

Just finished 65 Dart 1991 5.2 Magnum swap for4-Speed, carbureted. let me know if you have issues with alternator hook,up you need the 70's voltage regulator. And little wire change among
field wires. I pulled some hair out.....

What did you do? I've got mine broke in but not sure the alternator is hooked up right. BTW I'm running a Magnum 408 with stock serpentine set up

I've had great service from mine. ALL of the chinkesium one wire HEI distributors are THE SAME. Whether Skip White, or whatever. They all come from China and the same 12 year old probably put them together.

Changing back from the import HEI to a full Mopar system because the module failed? Seriously? That's pretty laughable when this would have fixed it.

Ignition Module GM HEI 4 Pin 1974-1988 Chevy Pontiac Olds Buick LX301 D1906HT | eBay

I like them. I always have. I was around when they were first introduced in the GM car and I liked them then. It's a smart idea. Everything in one unit with cheap AVAILABLE parts to service, only required ONE WIRE to operate.

Breaking up at high RPM? I've run mine for three years. Yeah, it's in a 75 F250 that ain't a race truck, but I have done a few parking lot smoke downs at 5500 and no problem. Maybe you got a bad one. They DO have a warranty. Skip White has a lifetime warranty.

They are also easy to limit the mechanical advance. All I did was get out a grammar school protractor and made a "good guess" and drilled a small hole in the breaker plate for a screw to stop the advance mechanism. Guess what? I got it right the first time. Unusual for me, but I did. lol

Anyway, if you don't like it because it's imported, or because it's a "GM style distributor", that's just dumb. I say if you have the room, and you want something easy to work with, easy to maintain and easy to find parts for, get the Skip White unit. I don't know if they are "any better" than the rest, but they have a bigger following, plus they have good customer service and offer a lifetime warranty.

Besides, ALL of the Mopar Performance distributors are made overseas anyway, so what's the difference?

Is this what you were talking about Rusty? If not, here is another way to get around it.

hows that fit in an early A. Old distributor barely clears as is. I have a HEI (actually bosch module) all in one and have been looking for a year for just a stupid cap clip. Everyone sells the distributor, no one knows who makes it or where to get parts.
