In my 68 Dart, I have a 741 case, 3.23, open 3rd member. I want to switch to 3.55 sure grip. Should I buy a sure grip and a ring and pinion and change it myself or buy a whole 3rd member?

Well, it will require some specialty tools, dial indicator with a magnetic base, some way to hold the yoke while torquing the pinion nut (I made my own tool for that) AND certain steps need to be followed.

It's not hard to do, just make sure to follow proper procedure.

741 case is fine. Keep your cost down. Just buy what you need.

If you've never set up gears before buy a complete unit. You don't just throw them in and they work. If the pinion depth is off even as much as .002" they may be noisy

If you find yourself convicted of a crime and destined to spend time in jail, do NOT sleep naked on your belly.
You're welcome. Carry on.

You should buy my 3.55 gears for the 741. Cheap$$ Came out of my 67 slant six powered A100! They're good gears I have no use for. And then shop for a good used suregrip, and then check Amazon often for a rebuild kit. They have deep discounts out of the blue (like this one for a 489 case) and you might find a kit for approx $60+/- like I did. This kit is now $20 less than what I paid!! Ive seen deep discounts on 741 case components so keep looking over a period of time, sale will pop up. Just enter "chrysler 8.75" in the search box, scoll away! My tip of the day:) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001GF1PY8/?tag=joeychgo-20
