For those who are interested, I am making more RobKat progress. Changed direction. I decided the 302 was going to make the car too nose heavy. So, I procured a 1994 Ranger 2.3 and built a 2300 turbo motor. Coming right along. Yes, you see a carburetor. That's also a point type distributor. I know. I'm sick. But that's what it's gettin. Other than the hybrid turbo, the engine is stone stock. The head is a 1984 Turbo Coupe large D port head......yes, that's a flat tappet cam. LOL Regardless, it will be snappy and probably get better than good mileage, which is my goal. After driving Gladys (1975 F250 Camper Special) everyday for the last almost five years, I want something a tad more economical.

I had a '81 stang with a 2.3 turbo 4-speed. It would "chirp" 3rd gear..... :)

love the 2.3! had me a 88 t-bird turbo coupe it scooted for a heavy car. always wanted to build a turbo 2.3 to play with.

remind us again what the robcat it?
(i know i read it once, and it was a fomoco product, but im drawing a blank)

It's his Mercury Bobcat. He was building a 302 know the 2.3 Turbo. Jeez Rob, Let's get this thing done already.

I know right. I haven't had something to play with in years......wait......that didn't come out right.

Same thing

No it ain't. This is a Mercury. How dare you say it's the same as a lowly Ford. LOL

Seriously, there are some pretty big differences. The hood being the biggest. They are totally different. The grilles are different. I always say the difference in Ford and Mercury was Mercury had a little more flash and chrome trim. The Pinto had a cheap *** plastic grille, but the Bobcat had a cheap *** chromed pot metal grille. See what I mean? LOL

Pinto! Bahahaha!...
I can't remember did you say you would have to use a different transmission also? And I was hoping the answer would be no so you could still possibly throw the 302 in there which I like much better with a dual quad tunnel ram sticking out! LOL

I sure wish someone could tell me what kind of wheels those are. They are 390mm diameter metric wheels. I read maybe BMW but I don't know.

I think they're the kind that should come off and be replaced by something else.
302 dual quad!

My '83 Mustang ragtop had those 390mm rims. It was part of the handling package for the GTs. At the time the ONLY tires made for them were Michelins. Not those exact rims. Those Michelins were sticky an soft 20K was about all I got out of them but they did stick.

I'm gonna build me a Mercury and cruise it up and down the road.
