HEI All in one

Want a good four pin GM look foe a old Kem. A Mopar box or a four pin is just a signal amplifier the coil can use.

I just used a Mopar breakerless dist. with a GM 4 pin. As an experiment, I DID NOT USE a heat sink, but just mounted it to a "flat" spot on the firewall near the wiper motor. I also simply used the factory coil. Works just fine, hotter spark than the Mopar ECU. I think it was Greg, Trailbeast? who redid my poor diagram for this one. Notice the orientation of the distributor connector. It must be wired so, or the rotor phase will be "off"

I also threw one "into a box" for emergency and test ignition. So far I've "test fired" several engines with it. Just hook the alligator clips to power, ground, and connect the distro

Did not even install manifolds!!

Even test-fired a Magnum. Made a quicky crappy carb adapter for the beer keg manifold, jacked up the pan with bricks and threw an engine plate and flywheel on. Fired it right up!!

LMFAO Anybody figure out what this is?

The heat sink is overrated outside a distributor if you ask me.

hows that fit in an early A. Old distributor barely clears as is. I have a HEI (actually bosch module) all in one and have been looking for a year for just a stupid cap clip. Everyone sells the distributor, no one knows who makes it or where to get parts.

This guy uses one in his thread about the swap. Looks like a tight fit but it does fit. That's what got me looking at these in the first place. Though, I admit, the idea of putting one together from stock parts is looking better to me.

What did you do? I've got mine broke in but not sure the alternator is hooked up right. BTW I'm running a Magnum 408 with stock serpentine set up
I have serpentine as well.
and 1991 stock alt.

Check if your charging properly.
If not pm me.

I think you're better off remotely mounting the HEI module because it's easier to keep it cool and you can use an ordinary Mopar EI distributor. I have mine mounted on an aluminum bar with an HEI heatsink for added cooling. See HEI Ignition Upgrade.

Changing back from the import HEI to a full Mopar system because the module failed? Seriously? That's pretty laughable when this would have fixed it.

It wasn't the HEI module that failed, it was the pickup assembly.

Only you, Del. That's great, man. lol

Just as easily found. But hey, whatever floats your boat. Just run what you like.

Guys like you think they know it all. The distributor died a day before the big event I planned to drive to. I spent a couple of hours looking for a replacement pickup online and at the local parts store proved fruitless. Of course the distributor does not come with a parts list..... I stole a distributor out of my son's 340 and quickly rigged up the HEI module so the car would run and haven't got around to doing anything else as it runs great now.

I am going to a Holley Sniper EFI and so fixing it now is a waste of time as I am changing direction with the distributor. I still think the chinese distributor is a piece of junk and don't think it was worth anymore time to work on. To the trash pile it goes.

So maybe you ought to stick to more meaningful comments please.

I didn't use the module that came with the coil, I bought a $10 4 pin module and used appliance grade spade connectors. Since I ordered everything new, I wouldn't have to search for a harness. I mounted mine on the passenger side firewall since it was much less crowded. I took the part of the factory harness that attached to the distributor and attached them to the module.

Thanks for the info. Always good to see others examples.

Also important to note that uoy will need to get the longest plug wire that will connect to the coil, to modify one end for the factory distributor terminal. ( I found this out the hard way and had to buy a cheap set of LS plug wires to rob the terminal off of and add to a universal wire to make it work)

Also important to proof read fitment lists from Google / ebay before posting! I'm pretty sure they didn't come on Diesel vans lol

If I may be so bold as to suggest ? the GM HEI dizzys are too big to fit in a-bodies . Trucks are o.k. Petronix Ignitor II is my suggestion along with their coil . The factory dizzy is o.k. but most are 40+ years old and worn out . the bushings are worn and the shaft has way too much end play. The PETRONIX eliminates the ballast resistor and has adjustments inside to limit advance . The cap and rotor are off the shelf GM parts available everywhere . Vacuum advance is adjustable too .

Use the small distributor cap HEI...it fits...it works...its cheap...so cheap buy two ...and have spare parts...LOL

Dumb question, will I need to get a different alternator for this swap or will the existing one on the /6 work? Not sure about the wiring etc.
