GPS sender for speedometer

What about the speedometer cable? Did you remove since it isn’t needed with the GPS or just leave it hooked up. If you removed it did you do anything to the adapter at the transmission? Or just unscrew the cable?

Thanks.

I left it there

When I had my 727 built the speedo pinion was replaced with a Freeze plug. No leaks.

I did something similar. I didn't want to try driving a freeze plug into the opening with the trans under the car, so I removed the stock speedo housing, drilled and tapped it for a plug, used some high-temp thread sealant (Permatex 59235) on it, and put it back in the trans without the cable.

I hadn’t thought about the room needed to drive the plug in with the transmission in the car.

This seems like a neat alternative, just tap and plug it.

Do you lose a lot of fluid when the adapter is removed? Just trying to plan because either way it will have to be removed. Either temporarily while it’s plugged or while the freeze plug is attempted.

Thanks again.

The plug isn't heavily driven in .Just snug with a little sealant . It's not under alot of pressure or saturated with fluid. I reinstalled the hold down just in case but 3200 miles and dry.

So you left everything hooked up at the trans as it was previously, and just left the cable ran to the dash as it was? I don’t hate this idea actually since I just want to drive it one more summer and then everything comes apart for paint and this transmission goes away anyway. Would plug the new one before it goes back in.

This is good to know. I looked tonight and that adapter is in kind of a tight spot with the floor shift setup. Still deciding if I want to pull and plug it or just leave it as is for now.

Thanks for the replies
