Want to put and aftermarket tach in a rallye dash

Hey 72Blu does the metal trim ring for the gage bezel cover up the clear plastic around the perimeter of the tach? If i went that route, i would need to get a green led bulb for the tach light so it all matches at night, and maybe cover up the SW logo.

What did you do with your repop tach you put in the 74 duster demon clone? If you decide to sell it, i may be interested. I have 2 of these cars, might want it for my 67. You never know.

The metal ring on the original dash bezel actually covers the very outer edge of the hash marks on the new tach, so you can't see the plastic lighting ring at all. On mine there is still a gap between the end of the new tach's gauge cup (which I had to cut back some) and the bezel. Not sure if it would be enough to light it with the strip lighting, but you could probably cut it back further if you wanted to, there's still some space there. I just planned to leave the lighting ring in place and back light it too.

As for the repop tach that's in my car now, I don't think I'd feel good about selling it. It's not very accurate, and it intermittently goes haywire and skips all over the place. I've checked all the connections and wiring for it, it's the gauge. Which is a big part of why I bought and modified the SW gauge. I just haven't gotten around to installing it yet. Same problem as always, I drive the car too much to tear it down very often.

Back to the original gist of the thread. How about this one from Stewart Warner. Perfect for 69 up rallye dashes. Prob similar in construction and design to 72 BluNblu s tach he modded. I may do the Stewart Warner tach, but go with this sidewinder one for sonnys 69. It would be more close to original for a 69.

I would be a little concerned on that tach that the original bezel would hide the outer edge of the "rpm x1000" script. It'll be close, you might lose part of the outer "m" and "0" and part of the SW logo. If it would cover it completely that would be fine, but I think you'll end up with part of the script covered and the rest showing, might look weird.

On mine the "rpm x1000" script is pretty much completely covered by the original center cone of the tach lens. I touched up the very outer parts of the "r" and "0" with a dab of ink to fully hide them.

How did you remove the chrome bezel and lens from your SW tach? I am looking to buy a SW side winder 8K tacb. I am assuming its similar construction to yours.

Just pry back the edge to release the crimping. Here are some more "in progress" pictures for everyone, I forgot I had these...
