Roadkill no longer on Youtube

-
Just something else to pay for....
Actually, according to motortrend, you'll still be able to watch them free, but on a 8 week delay for new episodes. Reading Frieburger's facebook post about it, seems youtube was going to start charging them even more to have the videos there.

"Today this video was posted to announce the company’s new plan for the airing of Roadkill, Hot Rod Garage, Dirt Every Day, Engine Masters, Ignition, and Head2Head. Here’s the short version: new episodes of those shows will no longer be posted to YouTube, but they will be available free on MotorTrend.com. Right now you can see free new episodes of every series listed above.

Here are details as I understand them for now:
- MotorTrendOnDemand.com will become simply MotorTrend.com
- If you have a current subscription to Motor Trend OnDemand, it is still valid.
- All our shows will be available first to subscribers to MotorTrend.com, and will appear without ads.
- The free-to-view shows appear 8 weeks later and will have advertising in them.
- To see the free shows, go to MotorTrend.com, navigate to the series you want (like Roadkill), and look at the thumbnail photos. If there is no icon of a padlock in the upper left corner, you can watch for free. To see episodes with a padlock, you must subscribe.
- For a short time (could be just a few days) the company is offering MotorTrend.com subscriptions for $2.99/month instead of the normal $4.99 in order to encourage YouTube viewers to sign up.
- All the shows that used to be on YouTube are currently scheduled to continue on MotorTrend.com with the same number of episodes as before.
- In addition to the former YouTube shows, MT will continue to show our exclusive shows: Roadkill Garage, Junkyard Gold, Put Up Or Shut Up.
- All of our old episodes will continue to be on YouTube.
- The company has turned off commenting on all videos on YouTube as people react to this news. Comments might be turned back on in the future.
- Comments are now fully functional for subscribers on MotorTrend.com.
- There will be posts and comments from company agents other than me on the Roadkill social pages as they advertise this change and address questions.
- Older episodes of Roadkill will continue to appear on the Velocity cable network.
- Discovery and Velocity content will continue to appear on MotorTrend.com.There will be premieres before cable, and many past seasons can be viewed for free.
- The Motor Trend YouTube channel will continue to get new videos. They will be teasers for new episodes, cutdowns of episodes, and short-form content from all the TEN brands.

As you react to this news, please separate your feelings about company decisions from your comments about us hosts. Personally, I’m sad that Roadkill will no longer be available to those of you who can not afford a subscription—especially the kids who we’ve inspired to become car people. However, we hosts and producers still love what we do and we are lucky to do it and we want to continue making great shows. The best message you can send is to keep the original Motor Trend shows on top by continuing to watch on MotorTrend.com, even if you do it for free." David Freiburger

Then WTF am I paying for Motor Trend on line?
not all shows will be free apparently. The extras like Roadkill Garage etc that have always been subscriber shows. And the ones that are free will have ads. Worth the 5 bucks for me to avoid the ads.

As long a the old episodes are available somewhere I can watch on my smart TV,
I'll be happy.
I can wait to watch new ones.
I've got other things to do with my life.
And I can deal with adds.
I understand, nothing is free.

But, I'm wondering if this won't kill the goose.
Being greedy does that, sometimes.

I started getting a bad taste in my mouth when they teamed up with Discovey. I really hope they don’t get out of touch with their fan base but I don’t see it heading in the right direction.

Yeah that was always my favorite thing or they'd fly somewhere and fix up a POS in the guys driveway and only make it like halfway back before removing the hood lol

Cool show for sure. I just put the Motor trend app on my phone and watch episodes that way. Sure you have to wait for the new one's but you have to wait for a new tv series too. I watched a short video about the cost of the show and how as it grows they also need to have income to cover the costs of producing the show. The show makes me laugh so I'll keep watching.

I actually got Dave to respond to my comments about the direction of the show and he insisted that things would remain the same and that he too wasn’t happy about the move away from youtube.

I was gonna say, they didn't team up with discovery, they were bought. As in corporate takeover.
I'm friends with Elana who used to be on the show and trust me, Freiburger isn't too happy about the new regime.

which means most likely he'll be gone once his contract is up. Sucks for Freiburger. I also think that's why we're seeing less of Finnegan too.

Yeah, I hear ya. Could be good for us roadkill fans though. We'll see, i suppose. I know hes under contract for a couple of years, I think. I'd love it if he broke away and took the roadkill stuff with him.

I'm a roadkill fan...lol

Finnegan moved away from LA and can't be on the show as often as he was. He also has a youtube show he does "Finnegans Garage". he has somewhere around 47 episodes. Hes built some cheap crap on there as well and explains that hes not done with Roadkill just because he moved.

For the cost of $25 yearly, seeing all the channels without advertising is a home run. Why? No no, why not?!?!

OK, I do realize that I live in an expensive market where comparatively I make a lot more than many others but do also realize that I also pay more than others. Here is my example of why $25 yearly for all the shows without advertising is worth it.

Lunch for the wife and I. 2, 12 inch hero (submarine/hogie) sandwiches, 2, 1 Ltr. Cokes, a bag of chips each, $25.

Yea, lunch is expensive (and tasty with the best cuts there are!) costs the same as the subscription.

If $25 is a lot to you, then save it for something else worthy. We’ll tell you what they did.

I know this is a fairly old thread but... I just love the new episodes. The Battle of the network stars is a blast. Watching them in the different challengers is hilarious and a blast. Plus the c-body Roadrunner episode is back to basics hacking fun. (except running on a dirt track without an air cleaner on a healthy 383)

I don't watch TV anymore so I'm saving 100 bucks a month on satellite or cable and this is really all I need in addition to youtube and netflix.

Just think, the alternative could be SpikeTV type of deal. Nothing like re-runs of Rockyrunning back to back

I have laptop with a bad speaker, me? deaf as a post, , an old office type chair that sucks that sits in front of the puter, and can't afford the pay Zerizon to stream these shows, EVEN IF I knew how to hook the puter to the TV! LOL
So I pay $12 to add Velosity now Motor Trend (on demand) to watch the same old reruns of the various car shows in Dish satelite TV!! Maybe the demand thing on Dish I is like paying them to watch a damn movie!!??????? lol
I admit I enjoy the spirit of RoadKill when they buy a junker and head out across America!!!!! I never get tired of such!!
