Whats the opinions of auto parts store bottles of octane booster...stuff like 104+ and other brands. Do they help ? which would you consider buying ?

I used to use the 104+ with good results, but that was several years ago.

Their claims are misleading.
"Raises octane 4 points!"
You think it means that 91 octane would be changed to 95. It does NOT. Instead, it is 91.4. That is worthless in my opinion.

If you tune it to 'just' get by on the octane...the booster rids any run on that can happen.
Yes .4

I have a question on octane. I was at the local sheets the other day and I was looking at all the options they have the flex fuel (e85) they have a E 15 then the normal three fuels 87 89 91. The e15 is rated at 90 and is for use only in 2001 newer vehicles. So it has a higher ethanol level but a higher octane than regular 87. What does the 5% extra ethanol do that you cant use it in older than 2001 vehicles? It is somewhat cheaper than 87 regular gas but i have always been scared to run it. Even tho my truck is a 2001.

The ethanol runs okay but as odd as it sounds, it has less energy content per gallon than straight gasoline. This means that you need to use MORE of it to get the same power. A richer mixture, so to speak.

I think it has to do with the older fuel systems not being able to withstand the alcohol's corrosive nature.
I have been burning 87E10 in my carburated junk since 2000; no problem.

Don't mix the over the counter boosters too rich in your tank. I had some MMT fouled plugs in my Charger recently, I'm not sure if it was the Lucas brand or the STP, I was using both over the summer. Reddish-maroon colored porcelain, yellow-red deposits in the exhaust manifold.

Friend of mine runs stuff from these folks in his 18 psi supercharged 392 Hemi, I think you have to call and speak with them to order:

BND Automotive

THIS
WORTHLES TO ANYTHING BUT VERY SMALL ENGINES .

a little 100LL is what I find works best for me 50 50 with 91 makes the 418 run so nice . plus the smell is so addicting .

I use RaceGas additive or the VP Octainium in a few toys here that like better than 91 octane fuel. Last year we did back to back dyno pulls with my Corvette that showed the RaceGas additive made more power and the car didn't pull timing compared to the run with 91 octane. I know for sure the RaceGas works, but it isn't cheap. However, carting a case of RaceGas additive in the hauler is a hell of a lot more convenient than a couple of barrels of C12.

Most of the auto parts store octane booster does little to nothing to raise octane. I have used Torco Accelerator which does actually work. For boosted applications octane is super important to prevent pre-ignition (knock) which will break pistons/rings etc. See link below and it's unleaded so safe for catalytic convertors Torco unleaded accelerator, it is not just another octane booster

Agree with this, it does work !! Handy to carry a can in the trunk and use it at fill up with store bought gas .

Buy yourself some xylene and make your own, do some research, works well, the parts store stuff is a complete waste of money.
