Return of the slant six?

-
wow... if they really "slant" it, that will be interesting.

I don't know, some of our best mopar muscle cars ever have been produced during the Fiat years. Scat Paks, Demons, Hellcats, etc

I agree, even though I am an old dawg and not crazy about new stuff with computers and EFI, I admit, there some badass vehicles being made.

As a confirmed slantaholic, I certainly hope there is a re-issue in the works! What an interesting video - very much like what I recall in my earliest school days. I love the "poink" at each frame change, and the reminder to turn the record over. I'm guessing this was a slide show with the "poink" telling someone to change slides, and the audio on an LP.

And the video was posted on Youtube by Mymopar....

I would expect it to be more of a piggy back of years past like the 5.7 being a Hemi. Though it might be a some what "Slanted Story", it will draw on the slant six lovers of old.

Or will it just be the 4.0 straight 6 from the Jeep line a few years ago reborn and tilted a few degrees.
Don't get me wrong, the 4.0 is a good engine.

If you read the original article from Allpar.com they're saying it will most likely be more similar to one of the current Fiat 4-bangers with 2 cylinders added than anything else. And you can all bet it's going to have 4 valves per cylinder, overhead cams, plastic intake yadda yadda, you can't really build a modern engine without those things anymore unless it's a big V-8 (LS and Hemi, that's it lol). I don't even remember the original article mentioning anything about slanting the engine although it's very common practice now, seems like typical news media romanticizing the facts.

Bump compression, redesign the cylinder head, direct inject and turbo it. Hell, might as well start from scratch and lean over whatever you get 30 degrees. Drive an BMW M30/M88 and see what a straight 6 is capable of. Give it a turbo diesel option while your at it for the truck crowd.

Don't diss Fiat engineering. Sure, they made small cars, but that is what the Euro market wanted. I may be wrong, but I understood that Fiat did much R&D and developed both the direct-injection and the common-rail diesel technology, then made so much money by licensing the later to M-B that they were able to buy Chrysler from Daimler.
