1972 Duster Project - Back From The Pasture

..............dont know what caused that but id let it cure real good then 1000/1200 sand gently and recoat :)
looks kinda weird like too much paint too quick???
if its dry and you sand it flat and theres NO UNDERLYING problem with prep should be OK

That was the problem we believe. Rushed it a bit to much.

Again my hat is off to the guys that do vinyl graphics for a living, simply nerve racking. The shop is cranked up to 72 degrees over night.
A little more assembly tomorrow but we're getting close.

I'm calling November 4th, 2018 as the official "done" date for this project. We'll tinker over the winter with it (new grill top of the list) but as far as we're concerned, the heavy lifting is done. Time for Jr. to have fun with it as weather permits. It has come a long way from the grave.
Thanks everyone for the support and following along this year. I'm pooped. Going to take the winter off then get back to my Bird in the spring.

Been a while since i looked in on this one. If you ask me,thats a job well done. Sr and Jr should be proud of the work. Hope Jr enjoys it for a long time.

Thanks all, I figured this thread was dead. I mainly come over to A Bodies these days to follow Kueneman's build with his daughter. That one will be a 72 from hell. Jim is doing a fantastic job.

There are still a few things that bug me about our 72. Hairlip in the grill (new one on back order from CI until god knows when), driver side door adjustment still haunting me, a few flaws in the paint I don't like but what the hell, it's a driver for a high school senior and he is digging every minute of it.

Santa hooked JR up with a new set of headlight bezels from OER and a Tach. We slammed the tach in this morning. Waiting on the grill before we install the bezels. We will take it on a short road trip tomorrow to help seat the old rings. Oil use has dropped way down since we fired it. We figure a good stretch of the legs on the highway will do the original 72 power plant some good. Pulls damn strong.

Did you order the Sharktooth or the new standard grille? Also the door. After aligning our doors I have a thought. Are you sure you don't have the striker too far IN? I found with ours if you push the striker all the way in it will catch on the FIRST catch on the door latch and the back of the door was about 1/4" out. It was a bit of work to get it to close on the SECOND catch and one door I had to pull the striker all the way OUT to get it to close with the new weatherstrip.

We back ordered the standard grill as discussed above. We agreed neither of us are particular to the Sharktooth although easier to get.
Thanks for the tip on the door alignment, we'll give it a try but I think the second catch is fully engaging. The P-Side is perfect with plenty of adjustment left, we just tweaked it a bit today to squeeze out some wind noise.

The wheel and the dash look great!
Do you mind sharing where you got the “Duster” horn button?

Sorry to crack open an old thread fellas, but it was asked above if Junior's senior pics would be taken with the car.
As this is graduation week it got me thinking about it. This is the one that went in the year book.
