Question about carbs for tunnel rams

you're looking for carbs to run on the street, right? To me that means giving up some quarter mile performance to be able to drive around town or take a trip of a few hundred miles. I run an STR12 on my 340 (basically a tunnel ram folded flat to flt under the hood) and have had excellent luck with an identical pair of Edelbrock 500 cfm Performers. I know that you said you wanted to use Holleys and if so you might try a pair of 500 Holleys with vacuum secondaries. Both these carbs open the secondaries based on the demand of the engine and I think that's why this set up has been working so well for me on the street. I've been running this set up for over 7 years and 20,000 miles.

I had many tell me that I could never run this on the street, don't believe it if someone tells you the same about the tunnel ram. A few thoughts: even though there is a cross over between the plenums under the carbs, setting this up as a progressive linkage set up means the most of the time when you are driving around, you will be rich on the side under the primary carb and probably lean on the other 4 cylinders, so I would suggest you open them at the same time and have 2 identical carbs. If you use Edelbrock carbs and need a choke (don't know about weather down under) buy non-choke carbs and add the choke kit if you need it. Edelbrock meters the choke carbs to meet CA emissions standards and meters the non-choke ones for drivability. Better to eat the small extra cost and have the car run better... PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT YOU DO AND HOW IT WORKS OUT!!!
