This may not turn out right, all one handed...rotator cuff surgery on the 27th and released yesterday on my left shoulder due to a fall in my driveway over the July 4th holiday, ripped my bicep muscle off as well as the tendon on top of the shoulder. It will be 6 weeks on a sling and 6 to 9 months to heal totally, i am the care giver for my 76 year old wife who has dementia and stage 4 C.O.P.D. it all should be really interesting trying to do everything one handed. I was informed that i will now set a metal detector off.

I’m pretty concerned, not only about my injury but about my wife’s health.

Reach out locally, I'm sure there are groups that can assist you in your endeavor, if there isn't any immediate family that can help..

She has kids locally but they have their own lives

Might not hurt to reach out to them.

I recently went through an event that put me down for 10 days, and I still can't return to work.

My kids have stepped up and have really helped without me asking.

Are there any home health aids nearby, who can assist?

This isn't something you should have to do alone.

I know where you're coming from though. For the past seven years my dad has been my mom's sole caregiver. Then he had to have back surgery. It was hard for him to sit back and watch others (a grandchild and myself) take care of Momma for a couple of months while he was healing.

Never hurts to reach out to the local Office of the Aging to see if they have programs.

My dad was working on his boat in his driveway a couple years ago when a swarm of bees came out from behind something in the boat. He jumped back to get away and fell out of his boat onto the asphalt. Broke his collar bone, shoulder, arm and wrist. And back of his heel. He's in his late 60's. I went over daily for a while to just sit with him, make food and general needs. As a parent I know how much we put out for our kids, as a kid I know that we have to give back to our parents even when we have our own busy lives. Even if all they do is help their mom out, they probably owe her at least that much. But certainly you know the situation the best with it, but I would be calling them up and saying come help please.

I will look into it and see what happens. Her kids are very much aware of the situation.

Wow, that is a rough situation. I'm sure they will have you doing a lot of physical therapy on that shoulder while you heal. It's important to do everything the therapist tell you too. I know, I had mine done and the recovery can be a *****. Cant imagine trying to take care of someone else while you're trying to recover yourself.
Best of luck to you, and the wife

Sometimes it’s overwhelming to say the least.

I had surgery on both my feet two years ago, life is a learning curve all over again when your going from active and self sufficient to down and out. Its challenging to say the least. And when its unexpected that's really tough.

With her having dementia it makes it even harder. I do everything here at home, something’s I will still be able to do but it’s going to be very limited.

My prayers are with you and your wife. I'll ask my group at our catholic church that they include you in the group prayer we do before and after class for the RCIA I'm attending.

Get some help... your insurance will help pay for it short term. If you are income challenged like I am every hospital has a program to help you pay for medical care.

Three years ago my wife had $250,000 worth of surgery and we had to pay $400.00. It was a teaching and research hospital so they picked up almost all of the cost.

I had my right shoulder replaced 10 years ago at age 60.... absolute miracle. New knee three years ago.

Now I have two tears in my right shoulder again and two tears in my left. Saw my surgeon again... he'll fix it again when I'm ready.

I wish you luck... and prayers

Talk with your doctor. He can order short term in home care. Also, check and see if Medicare will cover short term care for your mom.

Your county will have an aging an long term care office. Contact them. They’ll will assign you a case manager who will assist you in solving your problem.

God bless brother.. put it in the Lords hands and ask for the His help ... .. I wear a dog tag.. Isaiah 41:10, you should also with all that's heading your way..

" Fear not, I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."

Best of luck to you Sir. While back I tore my bicep tendon, when the surgeon was in there taking out a big spur she snipped the two fibers that was holding it in place. Not that hard to deal with, except for the fact that certain movements will try and make the bicep tendon work...hurts like a sumovabeech...
