I'm so glad to hear that things are going better for you Randy. I missed your informative posts.

Glad to see you’re back and will continue with the project. I sold my Dart and didn’t visit FABO for probably a year or more, but the very first thread I searched for when I returned a few months ago was this one.

Glad to hear it worked out for you in the long run, can't wait for more updates!

These cars cost $$$ dont ask how many years I have been working mine :) I just said to the OL, " It would be cheaper for me to restore my Fox Body Convertible, but I dunno the Mopar is more badazz, and makes more of a statement when rolling down the road...

^^^^^ ME TOO!!!!! Come on Randy let us know whats up...love this build PICTURES PLEASE!!!

Hey guys, sorry for the huge delay in this build. I did start back up on it last weekend and have been at it every night and almost got one side ready for some polyester primer. It’s a long boring and dirty process! I really hate bodywork and procrastinated long enough.. so far all the lines have been taped and skim coated (still have the lower half to finish) blocked in 80 and 120.

Thanks guys! Your car looks great go mango! I’ve been working on the quarter for a while now (getting all these bodylines correct and making them match up from panel to panel has been a real challenge but it’s to be expected for aftermarket stuff) I finally got my Glasurit 285-50 HS primer on it and blocked it out in 220 with my 2’ durablock to see how close it is. There’s a coat of polyester spray filler under that blocked in 120, 180 and 220.. I think one more primer/blocking and it should be ready for the final primer. I plan on tackling the door and fender right away (already started on the door) and get those blocked out for the HS primer. I bit off more than I could chew with trying to get the whole side done in one shot and it was hard to focus on one panel at a time, but I had no choice in the roughing out stage because I want my bodylines to match up and they were all off panel to panel. (AMD) since it’s roughed out and close I’m now moving along slowly getting the quarter done and moving my way up.

Randy did you fit up your rear valance to make sure it fit those quarter panels? I forgot to until I had primed everything and then found my valance didn’t fit worth a darn and had to do some modifying and reprime it.

Hey Danny,

I did have the rear valance on the car before and it fit the car well. It does need a little welding because it’s cut weird where it butts up against the extension housing (AMD rear valence) Thanks again for taking me to the meet with your car! It’s a good motivation booster.

Have I said how much I hate bodywork? I got a month in this side working weekends and evenings after work.. lots of filler work, blocking, polyester primer and more blocking.. getting all the little pieces fit (extension housings, valances) has been time consuming. It’s finally in Glasurit HS primer! I started on the roof blocking it out in 220 (bodywork was already done previously) and getting the A pillars/rain gutters cleaned up. I got the week off so I’m gonna put some hours into it. After the roof is primered I’m gonna do the hood.

That light grey primer sure makes the lines pop!

Got the roof blocked out (turned out perfect) did the A pillars and drivers C pillar as well as the rain gutters got putty/blocked. Then started on the hood.. the front was crushed in so spent a few hours metal finishing it and re welding the blown spotwelds/stress cracks. Then ran the block over the hood only to find it was pretty rough. I puttied all the bad spots and will give it a thick coat of polyester spray filler. The damaged area got a skim coat of fibreglass and them regular filler. Hopefully tomorrow I can get it in polyester! I’d like to get the hood in HS primer by the weekend so I can start on the other side..

You are making some great progress Randy! Your car is going to look awesome! L8r

Jim

Thanks! I thought in my head this would go a lot quicker, but boy was I wrong!

Got the hood pretty close and then pounded on a coat of polyester primer (spray on putty) I’ll block it out this weekend and see where I’m at with it. This really is a boring part of the restoration, I’m sure everyone wants to see it orange by now, haha

Blocked the hood out today in 120 grit on my 2’ block. The polyester got a lot of the bad areas worked out. Tomorrow I’ll putty the lows, block it out epoxy my highs and give it 2 coats of HS primer and block it out in 180/220 and see where it’s at again. This just makes a dump of my garage!

damn. I don't know how you guys learn to do body work. I just don't have it.

Lots of patience and time! And use good blocks, materials and guide coat and it should come out good. All the grunt work can be done in a home garage and if you’re really up to it and clean your garage well and have good ventilation you can get killer results painting in the garage as well! A lot of show cars were done in a small home garage, it’s all about the time you put into it.. I’m gonna paint the insides of my car in the garage (under the hood, trunk and floors) and then take it to my dads shop for final paint only because my neighbors hate the smell, haha

Hood is now done. (Blocked out in 220 and didn’t hit any metal this time, primed 2 coats) then pushed the car outside to clean the garage, it was so dusty! Now on to the other side.. yay!
