Please help with pic..

I have 71 scamp that has the same looking set up as the one hemi ss dart showed in his pics.it was a bench seat car and I put in buckets,planing on building custom console for it but really don't understand how your shift handle comes out in center of console.is it all in the bends of the shifter handle or is there a diff mounting on trans?
