I have a 61 four door and the rear door will not open from either the inside or outside. Does anyone have a diagram of the door mechanism ?

I don't have a diagram. Most likely something is stuck or broken. You may have to remove back seat
bottom and trim panel to access the inside of the door.

Lee, I can post a couple of pictures tonight. The 61 and 62 doors are simular I think. Does the lock lever turn? Door handle button stuck or loose?

Both handles work and the lock lever works, door handle is not loose.

Sorry Furyfrank I got my streams crossed! There is no picture in the 62 FSM. I took some pictures, but not much to see or good pictures. I would remove the door panel, very carefully the backer panels are real weak after 50 years. It most likely gummed up and cleaning lubing should help it work again. The rod from the lock comes back and stops the deal from working. After the door panel is off you can release the door by working the levers from inside. Maybe it's hung on the door latch also.

I am going to try and roll down the window and see if I can get a rod( a metal hanger )to pull up the release mechanism.

furyfrank, I do have the '60 service manual. If you'd still like me to scan and post the pages covering this subject after Hyper_pak sent you the pictures, let me know.

I have a '62 Valiant V-200, and the door latches can sometimes develop a mind of their own. They tend to need TLC occasionally.

The '62 Valiant service manual was combined with the Plymouth service manual because Chrysler was having financial problems at the time and was trying to save money on the FSMs. Therefore it is not as detailed as the '60 FSM. So the '60 FSM (covering '60-'61) is the best one to use, except where the '62 was different from the '60-'61. On the door latches I believe they remained the same in '62.

Thanks please send me the pictures, it would help me know what I am looking for.

Here's a link to everything the FSM has on the doors. They don't discuss the door locks and latches separately:

I removed my door lock mechanisms, dropped them in the parts washer and cleaned them up well. Once they were clean, I observed them carefully while operating all the levers and latches until I understood how they operate and that nothing was sticking, and then I lubricated them well and re-installed them.
