I bought a 1950 L150 a 1 1/2 ton. It has the silver diamond 220 in it. Parts are hard to find for overhauling . Does anyone know or know anyone that has put a V8 in one. I'm thinking 340 or 360.

I had a 53. I installed a Ford Mustang II front end and a 302, C4 trans with an 8.8 diff. That gave me rear discs. The front end was extremely close to the right width! I had to make one zip disc slice through the crossmember and then weld it back together. I used all the electrical and brake system from the Ford as well. It was an easy build.
Anyway, it's gone now but driven regularly by the new owner shown below.

We had a 55 R110 back in the 70's. That damn thing hauled a lot of wood. We called it "Pinky". It looked like this one.

Thanks nice trucks but they look like
110's. Mine is a full ton and a half farm truck. I suppose when I get to that point I can size it up. I don't want to have to do a clip if I don't have to not that experienced.

Put a 549 in it. Totally different. GOBS of bottom end torque. Probably be a bolt in. Just look for old IH Loadstar busses and dump trucks and such. You'll find one quick. They made millions.

I've been reading up on the loadstar. I'll look into that . I need to get away from the SD 220 ,parts are hard to come buy and very expensive when you find them. I'd like to upgrade at least into the mid 60's. I've even thought a 304 ,345 or 392.

If you're going to keep it as a big truck put a DT360 or a 12v Cummins in it. Gas engine suck it big trucks.

Honestly don't know what I want to do.
I got the truck for a$100. Not really out anything. Has some rust issues , sat for about thirty years on a farm on the wet side of Wa State. I was always partial to the Binders. I would like to see it going. Its diffenitly not going to be a worker, it did that for along time, time for a rest. I guess looking for an easy fix.

drop a 400 or a 440 in there, or the 5 something busty mentioned

id stay away from a diesel, unless your building a farm implement

Grandpa had a '72 IH pickup that he got from his dad. Converted to dual fuel with propane in the mid 1980's. I think my cousin Kevin has it

I'd aim for a simple swap. 304/345/392 ain't exactly cheap motors to build/repair.. Ask me how I know!

EBay has a DT360 for about $2100.
Not bad I thought they would be more.
The problem with just buying an engine will be all the other stuff needed to do the swap. It would probably be cheaper and easier in the long run to buy a whole truck and just swap cabs. Something like an old school bus or an old U haul truck would fit the bill, you'll get more modern brakes and axles under it.

for IH parts, and info
Browse to the internet site
Binder Planet
Rumored to be a knowledgeable
International Harvester site.

And as mentioned by RRR,
Look into the ‘Large V8’ IH engines of the late 60’s early 70’s
500 + cubic inch cast iron monstor
motors,,,

I'm a member. Lots of stuff on there. I don't know if old 220 turns or not haven't got that far. If it does may pull it and have it cleaned up

When I was a kid in the 70's and early 80's, those Loadstars were everywhere.

EVERYWHERE.

School buses, trash trucks, all sorts of commercial vehicles, tow trucks, etc.

Paystar dump trucks and cement mixers and Transtar semi tractors.

EVERYWHERE!

As dialiant said , if you swap you have to change everything. I'm more for trying to keep it the way it is if the parts work. I would like to swap out the non syncro 4speed. Parts are around , I have a cousin who's family has own the international Harvester truck and tractor in Okanogan Wa for the last 60 yes. He can probably source me some of the things I need and tell me what will work or not.
