Can anyone tell me WTH they are talking about? Something about a vibrating rock??

Surface Plasmon-Mediated Nanoscale Localization of Laser-Driven sub-Terahertz Spin Dynamics in Magnetic Dielectrics

We report spatial localization of the effective magnetic field generated via the inverse Faraday effect employing surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) at Au/garnet interface. Analyzing both numerically and analytically the electric field of the SPPs at this interface, we corroborate our study with a proof-of-concept experiment showing efficient SPP-driven excitation of coherent spin precession with 0.41 THz frequency. We argue that the subdiffractional confinement of the SPP electric field enables strong spatial localization of the SPP-mediated excitation of spin dynamics. We demonstrate two orders of magnitude enhancement of the excitation efficiency at the surface plasmon resonance within a 100 nm layer of a dielectric garnet. Our findings broaden the horizons of ultrafast spin-plasmonics and open pathways toward nonthermal opto-magnetic recording on the nanoscale.

It's sounds pretty simple to me.......did you get lost at the "surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) at Au/garnet interface" or at the "SPP-driven excitation of coherent spin precession with 0.41 THz frequency"?? Everyone knows what the Faraday effect is so I won't have to explain it!!:realcrazy:

I started reading a book called "The Breakdown Of Consciousness In The Bicameral Mind" a couple of decades ago.

it is VERY difficult to get through and comprehend one paragraph let alone retain anything from that paragraph moving on to the next.

Alan bloom, by any chance?
I tried reading his "the closing of the American mind"
Very interesting, but boy was it dry

Then again, I also worked my way through the 4 volume "the fundementals"
I think that one was printed in 1890-something

Julian Jaynes

You might not like it.

Among other things, it tries to explain where the concept of "God" comes from.

I knew I heard that someplace now it brings it all back. By the way... that would be chrome muffler bearings not just the ordinary kind.
I think they are (Au) Gold, and may have a jeweled bearing made of garnet. So its a 1 jewel movement. I think the last line is talking about opto-magnetic recording (laser/Hard drive disk?) and maybe how garnet can be used instead of ferrite oxide, or rust. when your talking nanometers deep, thats pretty small, like powdered size. Maybe just a new old recording tape formulation. Maybe they got it better than the Old TDK MA-X? :wtf:

I went to an Oingo Boingo Concert and was literally 12 feet from the left stage speaker. It was set up for a school dance (they won a nationwide contest) and it was F'n loud. Day later my ears were still ringing. Danny Elfman retired because of hearing loss.

Seems like a lot of professions (most notably the medical profession) rename common things so that outsiders think things are a lot more complicated than they really are. That way they can act elite and charge a lot more money.

Yeah, I'm sure the 4 years of premed, 5 years of medical school 3 years of residency and fellowship (If they did it) is all a big scheme to scam you out of your 25 dollar copay

Just tell them your indigent. Its all free, even the cab ride to the street corner when your released. Yet most of us have to pay so were in debt to them and HAVE to WORK to pay it off...Its crazy.

The article is actually about a new way of controlling the propagation of light called Plasmonics. Plasmons are created by the interaction of light waves and free electrons on metal dielectric plates. It's about being able to focus electromagnetic energy sources like light more precisely and at very high frequencies. Plasmonics are sort of the cutting edge technology in photovoltaics, lasers and biochemistry. The theory behind the science is pretty old, like from around the time of WW2. We now have the technology and computing power to prove the original theory.

I'm not a physicist, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. :)
