Thermostat failure Mr. Gasket High Flow

-
I can't see any plastic in the one I got. Just a bunch of deformed brass. Are you talking about the "Stewart" that sells water pumps? You know a distributor for their stuff? Thanks

Their stats probably don't come "pre bent" and all misaligned.lol or do they charge extra for that.

Ya. Same thing happened at the track after about two races. Stuck shut and over heated. Took it out and put in a 6 dollar stant. Never had a problem since. Like most things quality not what it used to be.

Where do you drill this whole anyone ever picture

Had one in my truck for three years now. Drive it almost everyday.

I put a high flow water pump on the 340 in my Mirada. If you put a high flow component in one part of the system, I think you ought think about the rest of the system. After some research, I went with the Mr. Gasket Co. High Flow thermostat. 132 miles later, the car begins to overheat; fortunately on a few miles from home.

A couple of thoughts on this:
*I don't think plastic belongs in a component such as this.

*We originally were going to drive the Mirada to a cruise-in, Friday, about 150 miles away. But, a few minor things caused us to cancel the trip. Even though disappointed in not going, that decision kept us from a roadside breakdown due to the thermostat.View attachment 1714946762
Is there an update on this? What type of impeller does Your "high flow" water pump have,...is it composite? Did you cut apart the thermostat and see the remnants of the part
that failed? Did you find all of the pieces, or..........?

Tstats are well, IMO you get some good you get some bad. I've had to go back to the auto store 5 times before one worked. Then it worked forever. I typically get fail safes. I've had most times been good the first time around. But buying tstats seems finacy at best

I have had 2 Mr. Gaskets fail to close to heat up engine. The first one the opening part was cocked in the sleeve and remained open. The new 1 is probably same problem cause engine doesn't heat up. Of coarse there made in China. The old ones weren't a problem it's the new Chinese ****. Now I have to remove the new one and figure out what to replace it with. I have also had problems with the cheap Stant ones.

Yes, recently put a Mr. Gasket high flow in a buddies car and it failed in about two weeks. It stuck shut. Put a new one in and it wouldn't close. The Chinese quality control must be pretty lame. I had to dip into my stash of old Robertshaws to get his car going.

No T stat for me. Restrictor plate is what I use.

It can not fail.

All the T stat does is warm you up and keep it warm at prolonged speed. If you need one you dont run enough compression or timing.

I worry about keeping my engine cool not buying things that get it hot.

Fail safe.
For daily drivers i have never had
Issues with stant or edelmann.
Delcos are sketchy, lots of open/close before it stabilizes.
Drilling the hole for air bleed isnt a bad idea.

Well today I went to a few Auto stores and all they had was the Mr. Gasket one that failed twice for me. I went to the S&K speed shop and saw an Edelbrock that I bought. I put it in a can of water with a Temp. gauge and opened at the rated 180*. I did it several times and it opened and closed they way the Chinese crap didn't. Tomorrow's job in the 30* weather is to install new thermostat. I'll put garage heater on about an hour before I start working on it. Biggest pain is draining Anti freeze.
