If you do the brake swap it’s super easy. Go to the junkyard and snatch an early 90s proportioning valve off a Jeep Cherokee. I just did the swap on a 66 and disc brakes are sooooooo much better than drums. I don’t have to worry about the nose diving to one side or if I’m going to stop

What are your ultimate plans for the build?
Engine, trans, colors, etc.........

Long rod 225 with 2.2 non turbo pistons. The biggest Hughes solid camshaft. It's not "that" big. .506/.518 220/224 @ .050 on a 108. Super six intake. "Some" kind of 2 barrel. "Some" kind of header and a good single exhaust. Replace the original light duty three on the tree with a heavy duty A230 3 speed, but leavin it three on the tree, just cause it's cool. But for right now and the foreseeable future, I am leaving it stock. It runs good. Going to get all the other mechanicals fixed and drive it some.
 
Have a nice, 21 year old coworker, Evan. He is the one who offered up his truck and trailer to go and get the car. He is coming over Monday because he actually WANTS to LEARN to do drum brakes. Nice to find decent young people these days. We will get all the wheel cylinders and shoes hung and master cylinder replaced, but it needs rear drums badly. I am going to get those and the fronts coming "just because". The fronts have a little life left, but why take chances?

Smart to keep the goal modest, I am guilty of tearing a car down with a huge plan....... then years later the car is still there in pieces. It happens quick, so it really is smart to run what you brung till the time is right to dig deeper into more elaborate swaps.

It's an obtainable goal. It will be a simple conversion since it it already a manual on the column and I intend on keeping it that way. Also, if the engine is in as good a shape as I suspect, I may leave it alone indefinitely.

If it ain't broke don't fix it approach?
I do a lot of my cars that way, but as you do, i take no chances with safety...........

Plus finding a 64 floor hump is like finding that hens tooth they are always talking about. I finally found a floor hump after 8 months of searching and it dang sure wasn't cheap..... for what, a rusty piece of metal.

They should be re-popping more for these cars

Brewer's sells them, but I am leavin this one on the column.
 
I got it running extremely well on the same tuneup it had when I bought it. The accelerator pump even still works. Going to slam a complete tuneup on it, yank the valve cover, adjust the valves and see how it runs then.

They list them but when you click "buy" they want an email to notify you when in stock. I put my email in last March and still nothing but since then I found one on here.

I am sure we can find you one, if that day ever comes which I predict will.

Maybe. Everything will just about have to fall in my lap. I really like the 3 on the tree. You just don't see many anymore. Now, if that OD gear made a bigger difference in mileage, I might do it. But they are pretty close.
 
Can you buy new front drums, or are you gonna have to hunt used ones if needed? I have these...and they're on a 65 Barracuda I drug out of GA, so they would feel right at home if you need them! Let me know if you need them, and I will pull them off and see if they've been turned a dozen times.

We actually have both front and rear in the Forest Park warehouse, believe or not. I'm going to cut the hubs out of the original drums and slide the new ones on. I sure do appreciate it. I would have taken you up on it had I not got them coming already.
 
Nice ride sir. Your video reminds me of why I love slants. You can abuse them to a degree that would have put lesser engines in the scrap pile years ago. Fresh gas, points, plugs, battery, and off we go. When I bought mine, it was puking fuel from the carb everywhere. I bought the car, took the carb off, rebuilt it the same day, and then went back the next day to reinstall the carb. Which took all of five minutes. Drove the car home with no problems, and it still runs like a sewing machine.

Well ALL I have done so far is put a new fuel filter on it and stuck a fuel hose in fresh gas, put a battery in it and the result is what you see. The next three days will be a Valiant bash. lol
 
too wordy for me. i'd like to see something with more quality pictures and less essay... i know how to do it but for someone just starting out the more pictures the better...

You need enough text to explain and walk the newbies through it to go along with the pictures...
 
What you can do with that single pot M/C-

saw off the part that bolts to the firewall you can drill and countersink it to make a 2 bolt to 4 bolt adapter,

...or at the very least you can use it as a bench bleeding aid to give unobstructed access to the plunger while clamping in a vice.
