Was from the South so literally grew up shooting. Do you remember way back in boot when you go to rifle range? I outshot the entire series plus our DI. I was tied with another guy when we went to 500 meter line. We plopped down and my 1st shot was on and pointed but not centered. I started changing dope and the RO was screaming at me to take another shot as is. I was in the zone and never heard him, changed my dope and put next 9 dead center. Was awarded range flag series high shooter blah blah. Then I got sent to a pool where they tried to drown a couple of us. Turns out being from the South I could also swim like a fish. I had a standard open infantry contract. Started as a mortar man but they figured why waste good talent! I am just a plain old everyday grunt. I have the knees and ankles to prove it! Plus a couple of other scars a bit harder to see. All good now I have been to civilian readjustment class!
