Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 EFI

Does proflo4 still need coil for ignition?
Yes, Edelbrock advise;
“Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 EFI has an internal Coil Driver capable of direct firing an ignition coil. No CDI Box or external ignition devices are required. When choosing an Ignition Coil a primary resistance of .4 to 1.4 OHM’s is recommended. Exceeding this primary resistance range could cause internal damage to the ECU. Edelbrock recommends Max Fire Coil part #22741 or #22740. If running a CDI box there are no limitations to coil specification.”

Yes. Relocated to passenger side front recess area. MSD Black high vibration. Years of reliable service.

So those Ford coils would probably be a good choice then? I mean, the coils used on the late 80's and early 90's 5.0 and 5.8 V8's? The "HEI" looking type. Their wiring pigtail is dead simple to splice in.

Does this mean that the MSD is OK? Don’t know if it exceeds max juice?

So.. I can finally ditch the AL6, makes my engine bay alot cleaner. I have MSD Blaster2 coil, it should be fine.

I am u

I am using the MSD 8.5’s with the ProFlo 4 on the 440. Work good with the suppiled Distributor from Edelbrock on my application.
msd 8.5`S >50 OHMS PER FOOT , ACCEL AND MOST OTHERS ? WAY UP THERE . USE MSD !

I was reading the instruction manual and started wondering is the fuelpump harness long enough to reach in-tank pump? Looks short on the picture. (havent got my set yet)

So does anybody have this on a Magnum motor? According to what I've found so far its for pre Magnum small blocks.

Im going to put one on my magnum build. Cant see any problem why wouldnt it fit besides the intakemanifold bolt pattern, but ive got EQ heads with LA pattern.

Edelbrock would sell a lot more if they made it for a B block.

It will only work if you have the LA intake bolt pattern in your heads. What you can do, it upgrade your heads to the EngineQuest (EQ) Magnum heads with the intake bolt pattern. I believe the part number 318B or something like that. I have a set on my LA 360 that was prepped by IMM Engines in Indio, CA. They are great heads!!

Wondering if anyone has used a Petronix DUI with the Pro Flo IV EFI and what their experience is?

Is that a distributor? Because, the Pro-Flo 4 already comes with a distributor. Or is that an ignition box?
Yes it is, it is a complete HEI package. Distributor, coil, one wire hookup. I was mistaken in my original post it is a DUI, Davis Unified Ignition. I am looking to see if anyone has had a problem with the mounting of this distributor.

Oh, it's one of those Chevy HEI style type of distributors?

Not sure if you'll want to use that for a Pro Flo 4 because it already comes with a distributor. Also, the distributor is locked out and I believe it uses hall effect. Anyway, the timing is controlled by the Pro Flo 4 computer, so I think you won't be needing that HEI distributor you'll just use the one that the Pro-Flo 4 kit came with.

Right now, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger, but I'm going to do it in stages. Stage 1 would be to get the EFI tank and run it to my carb just to make sure the tank and fuel pump is working and there are no leaks, Stage 2 would be to get the Pro-Flo 4 kit and install it.

I do want to do an engine health check first though. Compression test, leak-down test, etc. Just to make sure I'm not wasting a ton of money. Know what I mean?

I just haven't decided if I was going to go with the Tanks Inc tank with their fuel pump and tube sender, or go with the Aeromotive Gen 2 tank and their pump and sender.

Having seen both the tanks inc pump/tank vs the Aeromotive, the Aeromotive has a more robust mounting flange and the pump is much quieter. This is comparing the 200+- tanks vs the 340 Aeromotive. I’m currently waiting on the Gen 2 tank for an e-body with the 200 pump but may decide to go with a gen1 340 again if they don’t get one produced shortly.

You will also have to use the distributor that comes with the pro flo EFI.

I've used the Tanks Inc on many customer's cars and it is more labor intensive as it comes in a hundred pieces and even though it is application specific. The specific part ends at the tank all other parts are universal so just more involved. On my current build I wasn't in the mood for all the time needed for the Tanks Inc setup so I went with the Aeromotive setup. Very much worth it in my opinion. Just verify you have the proper fittings and it's pretty much connect, plug and play.
