My 904 pulled from a 318 question

-
Grab the B&M 10239 and be done with it.
So simple, no fuss, bolt on and go.
and some spend 80 bucks and never worry about it again. I'm probably 15 years on this balanced flex plate. It's on it's 2nd 360, and had several converters behind it. Glad I wasn't welding weights, then knocking them off, then rewelding.... LOL. cause I've had 340's and 318's that's shared them same converters.
Again buy buy buy spend spend spend....
You think 318 will not win would be changing those weights every other week or something LOL

Says the guy that spent $$ 6,000 for a machine shop to build his 410 stroker :D
:rofl:Jaw Par....

I do agree with what jpar is saying tho. Most of the time (some ppl not all) would rather throw money at a problem than put in some labor hours.
do you mean pick up my welder and use my brain and do something or just press a button and have Summit send it to my door?

Once again I got to come out here and dispute this bull crap. No I did not pay 6 grand to a machine shop to build my motor for me good Lord what else do you go out here and say that I don't see that you that becomes internet fact?

Sigh*** once again, Jaw Par. 2 minutes to find you guilty by your own words. Read your OWN words in the quote below... I highlighted it for you.
I have a feeling years from now when you look back you would wish to just bought the Magnum and the manifold and started cleaning and assembling. Don't get me wrong I have a badass stroked dual-quad fire breathing crazy la motor, but if I had to do it all over again would I put those dual quads on a junkyard Magnum 360? You bet your *** I would have. I'd love to buy a bunch of stuff for Magnum and just keep blowing up $350 Motors every other season LOL instead of risking breaking the 6K one I have now.

Here dartfreak75 ^^^ from your own thread. The guy telling you to pinch the 5 bucks spent 6k on his... LOL :D :D

To weld or not to weld that is the question. lol to each his own.
I've been known to push the summit button a time or two. or three. lol

LOL... some swing at a nat, and swallow a camel. :D

… and some act like they chisel their own cam grind with their teeth

Go get a Harbor Freight, buy a $100 welder, look for converter weights at a trans shop, with blank stares on their faces, choose a spot to hopefully weld them on in the right place, install trans, uninstall trans because everything is out of balance, install, uninstall, start a 10 page thread about vibration under car, uninstall...............

Or

Buy the B&M plate (got mine for $50.00) install, burn rubber.
Case closed.

Aren't you 2 drag racing or something ?
Is it to late to change my vote ?
Because I think one guy will be working on his transmission, while the other guy will be getting time slips. :)

**** , you wanna talk about cheap , I didn't even buy the weights. I took my scale , cut and weighed out 2 20 gram pieces of a thick washer and welded them on. cost me 3 bucks in electricity !

Lol yea if you dont have a welder I could see that the flex plate is a better option.

Now now yall play nice. Haha but yes I see both sides. On one hand its good to buy right part for the job and there is nothing wrong with that. But on the other hand if you have a welder a perfectly good tc and some 360 weights why not make it work. Waste not want not! Be resourceful with what you have and save the 50 dollars for something you can't build.
Like a freaking valve spring tool! Haha
I have had three failed attempts at one of those suckers.

???? What are you wasting??? The perfectly good torque converter is being used behind a weighted flex plate?
  • It's perfectly ok to weld weights on the TC. This is smart if it's a one and done deal. Cost savings.
  • It's also perfectly ok to buy a balanced flex plate. That way that perfectly good TC can be used behind a perfectly good 318, 340, 360, 408, 410, 416, or buy a better perfectly good TC that's neutral balanced and it will work behind that balanced flexplate.... make sense??? It doesn't mean folks are lazy..... LOL.. sometimes it means they are smart :D

Yea I get what your saying. That makes sence.
The wasting I was referring to was if you have a perfectly good flex plate and tc it seems like a waste of 50 bucks to buy a new flexplate. But like said I see both sides. :D

Well folk's, I am going with the B&M plate, because I have two roller 318 rv engines in case my 360 needs to be pulled one day, the 904 has only maybe 600 miles on it and the TQ converter is new , I have two old flex plates.... I do believe in do the job one time and be dun, the B&M plate fit's my needs.
Now ! if anyone want's to say I am to lazy to weld, and install they are just fishing.( a 10 minute job) . Not touching this new TQ converter ...

Calling you lazy was not my intention at all. If that is how I came off I apologize. If i had a brand new tc then no I wouldn't weld it either. I was just agreeing with jpar that there other alternatives other than just buying new parts. Very expensive parts. Like in my situation i have a perfectly good 318 (used) tc if i wanted to use it on my 360 it would be more efficient to just weld on the weights. But if your already buying a new tc then you might as well get the flex plate that goes with it. If I came off wrong im sorry i didnt mean no offense.

I understand, and sorry if you took this personally, I need the plate for this build, and I would bet the price of the plate will go higher down the road.
I have a Ramcharger I drive as well with a 360, and when the day comes when they put me in the ground my sons will understand what the plate is for and don't understand MoPar like I do, they dirt race Chevy's. Here they are.

Oh, no! Not YOU being LAZY! I was calling "some" people lazy because they won't weld. But not YOU that won't weld. Just those "other some" people that don't do it my way. But not YOU. You are NOT the some that didn't weld that I was talking about. you know, those "others".…. :poke:
