What do you use for a drop or work light?

It's one of their customers...

It's all original car and in beautiful condition... 68 Olds 442 with a 400 engine... I believe they said that it has around 80 k original miles...

The guy is getting an edelbrock performer manifold installed...

The garage does general mechanical work and is very good... They only fix what is needed and don't try to pump up the repair bill...

They specialize in exhaust work and do custom bending...

That's where we took Eddie's Dart to get the x-pipe... They did from the headers back and hooked it up to his existing mufflers...

Here's the Dart after it was finished and we installed a distributor rebuild with a custom curve for it from @halifaxhops and tuned it in...

They are pretty cool guys that work there... I've hung out with them after work when they close the garage and have a few drinks... If they are closed when I get there, they will open the door and let me in and we hang out for a bit...

I've hung out with the owner a few times... One time I had two extra tickets to the Roger Waters concert performing the Wall at the Cub's stadium on a Saturday... I invited the owner and his GF to come... They happened to be able to reciprocate the next day as one of their other good customers gave them free tickets to a White Sox game... Awesome hook-up - paid parking near the entrance of the stadium, second level private booth with catered food and drinks all free with padded seats right behind home plate and even had waitresses taking drink orders and delivering them to you in your seat... You didn't have to pay for the drinks, just tip the waitresses if you felt necessary...

We all had a great time and that made an awesome weekend... Great concert on Saturday, and seats right behind home plate on Sunday... They were the best seats that I've ever had at a ball game... I told Mike after the game, "We have to hang out more often.."

The owner, Mike, is my buddy Doug's uncle... It turns out that he grew up in the neighborhood right next to the first one that I lived in when I was a kid... I get to walk in the back of the shop and hang out with them when I go there, even though 'regular' customers are not allowed in the shop....

the underhood light in the second pic looks similar, if not identical to the Milwaukee cordless I got for xmas. I got two 4A, 12v batteries this morning, and charged them both up in a few hours. It has a hi(1350lumen) and lo(600lumen) setting, and is supposed to stay lit for 4hrs on the hi setting, 8hrs on the lo setting.
I got it as a gift, otherwise I would have had to think real hard about buying it myself, because I guess it was just over $200, without batteries, or charger. Fortunately, I already had a dual charger which handles 12v and 18v simultaneously. And I bought some "Milwaukee copy-cat" batteries for 1/2 price online.
It puts out a good broad flood of light for the top of the engine compartment, but I think you'll still need a smaller, more portable light source for individual situations like you'd need a trouble light for. The thing I like best is that the LED light is cool, bright, and no cords to trip over.

Rusty I use a combo. I have some cheap clamp on reflector lamps and a couple of beat up conventional old drop cords. The "trick" is that I use cheap LED screw in bulbs in 'em. They don't get hot and you can drop them a few times

CAVEAT: I did drop one the LED came out of the screw in base which was crimped to the plastic "bulb." I actually epoxied it back in, been workin' ever since LOL

I need LOTS of light anymore

I just bought a 5" clamp light from Menards. I put in a 100w equivalent LED bulb. It's super bright, not hot, easy to clamp anywhere and direct the light where you need it. I absolutely love it. I'm going to get some more for my wood working bench. My wife already took mine for her sewing area. LOL . They are only $6.00 at Menards. The smaller size makes it easier to direct the light where you want it and not in your eyes. I've used lots of different lights over the years and I think this is a great inexpensive solution. I also like the headlamp type light also.

I caved. Bought a snap-on underhood light. Is cordless, but has a nice long charging cord.
It is bright, has great magnets and rotates and swivels.
I started off the conversation about the light with “300 and?”
His reply was 21.
So $321.00.
Sold it to me for 310 plus taxes.
I decided i wanted to make payments. He lets me do whatever i want for payments.
Good guy.

This has been my go to light for the past several years. Magnet will hold well to the ramps or the undercarriage, or the hood. For all day work, get two as their recharge is very slow.
Downside is the same as any LED - the light is directional, sometimes it makes too much contrast or shadow.
The worst part is forgetting about it under the hood, in the wheel well, you get the idea...
Never did that with a corded drop light. LOL.

Model was ECFHKY
It was around 60 - 80 USD a few years ago.

New Snap On 350 Lumens Rechargeable Mini Shop work Light 4 colors to choose from | eBay

I still have a corded incandescent and a corded flouresent drop light handy but don't use them nearly as much now. The incandescent has a plastic hood - it still gets hot but doesn't burn your skin and stuff like the metal ones.
OTH, last month I installed 4' double tube T12 on each side of the garage which help get more light onto the work.
If buying new I'd look at T8 but these have been sitting in the corner collecting dust so price was right and made more floor space.

I have been using a Milwaukee 2352 LED stick light. I have a bunch of Milwaukee 18v tools and this one is a nice addition. Maybe not the lightest (if you hang a big battery on it), but lasts a super long time, has two settings 300 lumens and 150 lumens. The led bulb is excellent because it doesn't get hot, if you drop it it won't burn out the bulb (like a CFL or conventional bulb). Portable, no cords, can be hung, the head swivels to direct the light where you need it. Is it cheap no, but you get what you pay for.

I've been looking at those, waiting for the price to drop somewhere online. I can get it for $49 locally at hodepo, I guess that's the best it's going to be.

This is my first responder lol..... Occasionally I go after more light but for what I do these days it covers me 90% of the time....

hodepo , had to read that a couple of times before it hit me !! LOL

I have had my snap on led underhood light for 2 weeks. Use it daily. Today was the first time i used the hood bar,and im quite happy with it.
Price, well i figure i spent that in 4 years anyway. I hope this one lasts 4 years.

Being an avid rock climber, a good headlamp is critical. I keep cheaper extras in all my cars. The best 3 brands out there are listed here. They may be expensive but they perform the better than the Shitty ones you see sold at Costco. They can be bought on amazon or head to you local REI or outdoor camping store. I’ve used all three brands. I prefer petzl.

Petzl
Black Diamond
Princeton Tec (best warranty)

Are these still what you would recommend? Which one do you like the best?? I'm in the market for a headlight for work, drop light and such just never seem to work for me and never light up the area that I really need illuminated. Thanks!
