Putting a 440 in a 73 Duster with Hooker super comps fender wells. Looking for a recomend on tire size. Going with slotted mags all around and the fronts will be 15X7. I know it will be tight but what can fit? was looking at some Cooper 215-60s. I have some 14X7 but it is a no go with caliper clearance. Going to be a street car. Thanks.

With a 215/60/15 on a 15x7 you’d need a minimum of 4” of backspace, and that will just barely clear. It’ll be tight.

Really you want a 15x7 with 4.25” of backspace, you can run 225/60/15’s with that so you’d have some room to spare with 215’s.

Why?

Re-think your choice
Well I already have them. I want the car OLD school, Loud,Rude and different. I can always go back to under chassis if need be. Fenders have been cut out, thats the way I got it. It is not going to be a long distance cruiser just a local street terror. I have a 68 R/R for long distance hauling.

Because tires and stance are a MAJOR problem. You have to hack the hell out of the car to run them.

There is no reason anymore to go through the trouble to run them. But it's his car and not mine so have at it if that's what you like.

jegs had wheels and tires for sale this past summer, Mt's all the way around.

Well I got a bug up and started mocking rims and tires. Swapped the 275-60-15s on Cop rims with a 4 1/2 BS off the R/R to the rear. No Go hit the springs. Took them to my buddy with some Shelby slots 8 1/2 with 3 1/2 BS. Fit perfect with rolled fender lips. One down one to go. Have some 14s that I peeled the sticky weights off with 205-70s and a 3 3/8 BS. Well they fit but close to calipers, some creative weight placement might work. Maybe put the weights on the inside of the rim so they dont show also. Time will tell after the motor/ headers are in. At least it is a roller so I can get it outside to pressure wash this filthy Jewel.

May I ask what model hookers you have? I need to order a set for my 72 440 duster but I keep Getting a different answer from each tech I talk to. I’m pretty sure I need the 5215-1 but I want to make sure. Thanks

I am not sure of the model number as i got them with this project. I got the engine and trans in and they fit fine and are easy to install and remove. They hang down pretty low at the collector but I think I can heat them and put a floor jack under the collector and gently bend them up. Tire clearance is tight on 1 tube and rubs a bit. this is with a 14x7 rim and 205-70-14 tires. After tweaking the collector I may get some more room and then dimple the tube that hits, hits only on hard turns. Just incase I trimed the steering column about2 inches and used the lower roller bearing trick you can find the mod here in the steering forum. Plenty of room there now and the column turns like butter. The last time I looked I only saw 1 set of Hooker fender wells listed for a big block..

Just looked at summit and the do offer 2 diff sets 5215 is a 2 in tube and the 5205 is a 1 7/8. Neither look like the ones I have BUT it could just be the image representation. Depending on your engine combo I think both would work. Be prepared to do some fabrication to get an exhaust system on it. I will notch the torsion bar crossmember and some other side rail mods.
