My 68' Dodge Dart adventure started this last Friday 1-18-19. I found and bought a 1968 "fixer" on Craigslist. The build is dedicated to my late father, his first name was Clive, who gave me all the skills I have and more. The car's original color is LL-1 Turquoise Metallic. I will be doing a complete restore, painting it back to where it all started, LL-1 again but this time base coat/clear coat. We drove from Denver, Colorado to Penny Lane in Helena, Montana to pick up the car. Here she sits in Montana waiting for me to come get her! And here she sits on the car hauler Saturday morning 1-19-19 about 9:30 am ready to go home with us. My wife and I traded taking pics just before our departure back to Denver. I know my Dad will be smiling down as this old girl becomes gorgeous again!

I LOVE that color.

Factory A/C and woodgrain wheel!

This is going to be a GREAT build!!! If it's half of the quality of your 74, it's going to be AMAZING. Subbed' and waiting.

Well with the Dart back at my shop I cleaned up all the trash/junk in the trunk and in the car. Removed the seats, kinda cleaned and assessed what to do first. Decided that both quarter panels really do need to be changed out. Started melting lead on both sides. I'll do the drivers side first, and then the passenger side. Ordered the AMD full quarters from Summit.

Cool, can't wait to see it in person. Is the wife warming up to it yet? Looks a little chilly in the pics.

Dave....the wife LOVES the Dart! She was totally into the trip we took to go get it.
We left Denver Friday morning at 4 am. Drove all the way to Bozeman, got there about 2:30pm, picked up the trailer in Bozeman and then checked into a hotel. Next morning left Bozeman at 7 am, (it was snowing but it stopped before we got to Helena) we were in Helena 1 1/2 hrs later. Derek the guy selling the Dart and his brother Dillon was there and we had it secured on the car hauler trailer shortly after. Quick pics...and off we went back to Denver. We has a great trip and made a good time of it!

Planing planing planing! With both full AMD quarter panels ordered (they are backordered currently, due to ship in the first week in Feb. direct from AMD). I am going to re-arrange the HaloLifts shop where the Dart and the Duster currently are. The Duster 408 needs reassembling which I will do in the next week. Get it back in the car and take the Duster home.

Then I'll go at removing the Darts bumpers, trans, drive line (engine is already gone),
8 3/4 rear end, front K, and get everything else removed from the engine bay.

Order a Rotesserie from Derek Weaver: Weaver® W-Rotisserie Auto Rotisserie

That looks like an awfully solid car to need quarters.

^ Well I am not one to make unnecessary work. When climbing in the trunk, I don't like the look of the outer wheel tubs: Rust! There are quite a few holes showing everywhere in each quarter so I think it needs changing. If I do a skin quarter I have a 7' stitch weld down the whole side of the quarter. Rather do a full piece and have a lot less welds to do. And Dats Dat!

I hear that, do it right!
Just curious. What was the original engine and what are your plans for power?

^ Original engine for the car was a 318, 904 trans, column shift, it is a 270 Dart. I have no idea where that engine is. I have a standard bore 1975 360 block here... So I'll probably build another decent small block 408.

I didn't have to deal with this reddish/brown crap on my 74' Duster, only a very small portion ...but I'm swimming in it with this Dart. Little by little I'll replace what is needing replaced. Where's the spot weld cutter!

Guess I dove in...no turning back. Quarter panels already ordered. Just ordered the rest of the drivers side needed metal: outer wheel tub, new trunk gutter channel metal, tail light housing metal, and a floor extension. Here we go!

Here you go again! Round 2 of making the rest of us look bad with our lack of progress!! Lol! Can’t wait to see more!

Marshall with Colorado's Choice Auto Glass showed up today to remove the windshield and rear glass. Glass out...check. Marshall said the original Mopar glass rubber was still in fantastic shape and that I should just do a good clean on it and we can re-use it. No serious rust in the glass channels, yay!
