Will a 1976 Aluminum intake for a 1 Barrel carb work on my 69 Slant 6 225?

Aluminum intake Chrysler part#
4041281

I would have to block off the EGR opening on the side................Any other mods.

I'm running a Holley 1 banger carb.

THX

I would think so. I am running a late 2bbl on my 67. It might not be jetted perfectly, I suppose -- they were running pretty lean at that time. But I don't care for those Holleys, myself.

My error.................. I want to put on an aluminum intake, 1 banger

Oh, that makes more sense. I think it would be a straight up swap -- I can't think of any hangups, other than you will want to carefully check the flange thicknesses against your exhaust manifold. If you got the exhaust that came with it, you should be good regardless.

I'm just curious why you wish to go through with this. There's no performance difference whatsoever and I'm pretty certain that late intake has an open choke pocket which is intended for an electric assist choke only. Nothing against novel ideas but you're facing problems you don't have now.

Can you show me a picture of that?? THX

check the heat stove for holes. I had 2 that had cracks in the stove area (lumpy pad under carb) also they take barely any torque, get the inch lb torque wrench out. will fit fine.

Yes, everything will bolt up. You can buy an EGR block-off plate on ebay for ~$15. Read the slantsix.org article on how to orient the triangle and conical washers at the head studs. Orient them wrong and the exhaust manifold may later crack.

I haven't looked at a 1bbl intake close in a looong time, and My memory may be fuzzy a bit, but You had better check to see if that carb base had the exhaust porting to heat it or not. Like TylerW said, You are causing a number of issues and possible headaches for maybe losing maybe 9# + or -... and the above comment about the jetting is also spot on. There are a bunch of different list#'s for both Holley and Carter 1bbls for a reason, there were changes that affected intake & carb temp and function that matter, so unless You're doing a matched carb & intake swap, do some homework...............

Scheese.
Short answer: All stock slant six intakes, will fit/work on all slant six engines.
The main situation with the aluminum intake is: If it is the two piece welded manifold, it could have porosity at the welds, and or cracks on the plenum floor.

So You're saying if the OP has an exhaust heated iron base Holley 1920, and puts it on an aluminum intake w/o exhaust passages, it won't be jetted lean??

Good goats! Your imaginations and keyboards are running away with y'all. A '76 aluminum intake is not the potentially porous 2-piece casting. There is no choke incompatibility caused by swapping one 1bbl intake for another 1bbl intake on a Slant-6, ever. There is no such thing as a '76 aluminum intake "without exhaust passages". There is no (for cryin' out loud) carburetor jetting issue caused that way, either—don't let's be making up ghost stories in response to a legitimate question, eh? The one and only issue is the presence of an EGR valve mount pad on the '76 intake. This is easily solved by either putting on an EGR blockoff plate (cheap and easy, as previously described) or installing an EGR valve rotated 180° from its normal position. Either way, use a fresh EGR gasket.

Beyond that, as is the case with any manifold R&R on a Slant motor, it is very much worth your while to get the good gaskets for the manifolds-to-head and intake-to-exhaust junctions.

(And yes, the aluminum intake is worth having if it's in the house. Sure, the weight reduction is a thing, but the better cold-engine driveability is a bigger and nicer thing, and the small fuel economy improvement adds up in dollars over time)

LOL, I knew You'd chime in sooner or later, but with goats????????!!!!

Thank you. What brand or spec intake and exhaust gaskets do you recommend. It's going to be all stock except for the 1 barrel aluminum intake I have for it. THX and I value your expertise.
