Hi all, my name is Randy & I need some help concerning my 1970 Dodge Dart Custom -318, 2v heads, 727 a/t. The poor critter has been sitting for some time & foolishly I forgot to drain the coolant out of the engine. The upshot of this is that the coolant & antifreeze caused an electrolytic reaction between the coolant & the aluminum Edelbrock Streetmaster 318 intake manifold. Needless to say the reaction has caused pitting & corrosion at the coolant port at one end & moderate pitting at the other.
So, I'm either going to need to have both areas repaired or find another Streetmaster intake manifold. It goes without saying that Edelbrock doesn't make this particular intake anymore, in fact all Edelbrock makes for my 318 are intakes for 318's with large port, 4V heads. How would I go about having these areas on my current intake repaired, I know that I need to somehow have the damaged areas cleaned of any coolant residue that is embedded in the pores of the casting, but I'm unsure as to how to do such a procedure. I know two excellent machinist/welders that could build the areas back up & then smooth out the surfaces, but I need to know how to safely get the coolant residue out so that the new material will hold.
Or, if all else fails, I'm going to need to find another good, used, reasonably priced, Streetmaster 318 intake to replace my current manifold, if anyone out there in the community has got one--or knows someone who has one--that they'd care to part with. This is rather important as some douche ran a red light & T-boned my truck, and his insurance company doesn't want to pay for what their client did. My old Dart is all I have left & I need to get it running again--asap--and I'd be eternally grateful for any help I can get.
I'm not a rich man, and this isn't going to be a show car, but I've had it for well over 30 years, I'd like to have it for another 30 years, but I really need it back on the road. I've always been a Dodge man, and I've owned & built a good many since the 70's, the good lord knows I wish I had a third of them now....
