I just put them on my shelves, after a good cleaning so it's not dripping gear oil, then a quick coat of wd40 ..... done!
I just stick mine in one of the many 5 gallon buckets we have laying around. a quart of cheap diff oil and spin the yoke every now and again to keep it lubed.
Here on the gulf coast, humidity is the devil. I did this with my trans and my differential. Greased it well, stuffed it into a "space bag" with a packet of Ridz and vacuumed it closed. It will keep for a long, long time.
