My buddy has an engine test stand for breaking in engines before installing in vehicles. He said I can bring my 360 over and hook it up to his stand to break it in before I drop it in my Duster. He is a Ford guy and doesn't have a bellhousing for a 360. My tranny is a 904 so I have no bellhousing to attach the rear of the engine to the stand. Is there a bracket or any tips you guys have on what I could use to accommodate this? Thanks!

Cut one off and old auto trans, or find a stick bell to use.
You're going to need a starter.:D

Autos will also need the torque converter as well as the starter. Watch the balance as well. 318's were internally balanced and the 360's were external. Don't mix and match components.

Yep, forgot about that thanks.
Figure he can use his 904 converter, but I wouldn't rev it too high with nothing supporting the end of the converter.

At this point if it were me I'd just put the damn thing in the car instead of screwing around with all this.:D

Ok, can I run it with just a flex plate and no torque converter? I have a starter.
The starter ring gear teeth are on the flywheel and on the torque converter. A converter would be a mess on a running engine!

I was going to say, there are plenty of vids on youtube of guys running 360s with just the flex plate.

just the flex plate? Highly highly HIGHLY doubt that. Not to mention, the 360 is externally balanced...

I miss-spoke. I mean the flywheel.. Here's a link to a video. Does anyone know what he has going here?

Point is the same.
Not all converters have a ring gear on em.
How do you put a ring gear on an 8" converter?:D
Maybe, but you should not try confusing the guy. That flexplate is for internally balanced, high horsepower applications.

What's that out of TB?
its a Hughes neutral balanced flexplate, designed for use for stroker kits that are internally balanced

Yeah that is exactly it!
You want to buy one just to start it on a engine stand? Forget the Non Mopar stand and put the damn thing in and make it run. Get some help. You may need it. Somebody that knows Mopars.

No idea, I was just making a point that not all converters in Mopars have a ring gear built on them.
so you just threw a random picture up to try to sound right or smart but in reality, you didn't know what you had. That's how people get the wrong advice and waste time, money and possible break stuff.

I guess you could put it that way if you like.
The point was not all converters in Mopars have ring gears on them, and not all flexplates in Mopars have ring gears.

and not all 360s are Mopars... see I can do that too..

you're being obtuse and are simply looking to stroke your ego trying to make yourself out to be "right". You googled for a picture simply to prove your point without even knowing what it is out of. For the record, the part number on that image you posted, is for a 5.0 FORD.

Thanks for the knowledge guys. I'm not going to mess with it, seems like too much of a pain. Just going to drop it in and mess with it in the car.

Engine run stands have their place. but 90% of the time, they're a waste of time and money. They're more for people who's cars aren't going to be ready anytime soon and the engine needs to be ran in the meantime for whatever reason.

You obviously don't know me very well.:D
Not once did I say that was the part he needed.
Toolman asked how you start the engine without a converter and I responded with possibilities.
(without degrading commentary to anyone)
