Rallye dash letter detailing

So I’m restoring my Rallye dash bezel, it’s been chromed, I have the overlay which is only placed on for reference. The bottom will be sprayed satin black, and I know the heater area needs to be satin black.

The question I have is, do I wipe the black of the lettering right away? , are the letters supposed to be white or the chroming to shine through after the black is wiped off?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
