Supercuda's on the way back...after18 years!

Great to hear the cuda's running that well. I agree they are thirsty though. Reminds me that I have to take mine out for a run before the weather turns here. A gear vendors overdrive might work as well. Still can't believe you got the car down to 2600 pounds.

Hey qkcuda,

Great to hear from you!

Ya, checked weight on a truck scale and came back at 2687lbs. I have access to 4 individual weigh scales to set up the 4 corners of the car over the winter that provide a printout so Ill post them for you.
Its amazing how much cast iron and steel that gets removed by using the Alterkation front and streetlynx rear suspension as well as a light weight starter, aluminum heads and intake, shorty headers etc..
I may consider the gear vendors overdrive as well.
BTW, what kind of times did you run this year? any new mods??

Thanks for the weight reduction info. I will be running these aluminum parts, an alum rad, intake, heads, bellhousing, 4 speed trans case, alum driveshaft. Plus shorty headers, mini starter as well. Keeping the stock K frame, but may be going borgeson for the steering chuck

We moved this summer, so no time to work on the car. I want to redo the whole front suspension before I race it again. I had a nasty squeak which I think is bushings and the ball joints are a little loose as well. I have the complete PST polygraphite kit, just need to get it installed. Hoping the poly bushings free up the front end lift a bit as well. The new M/T drag radials are ready to go. Looking for more consistent launches, but figure best times will stay around the 11.50 mark.

No problem moparmat2000,

I will post the readouts from the weigh scale system as soon as I get them set up. These are the units used on the Highways for spot checking transport trucks. Wait until you get all the suspension on the floor and you'll see where the weight is! The borgeson box alone will be a great reduction!

I will be happy with 2,800- 2,850. Mine is a notchback. That may help with the weight

The notch is a great body style! Be sure to post some pics of your progress and please touch base if I can be of any help. Maybe I can help you avoid some of the frustrations I encountered!

AAndrew,
What headers are you running? I’m putting together a 67 Barracuda. Running into issues of headers with 383 big block install. Are you running the factory steering column? I have a mustang II rack and converted to a custom tubular control arms with coil over suspension. I was thinking TTI headers. Also on the column where did you get your firewall plate to the column? Is it a factory one?

Thanks for any help

Steve

Hey Steve,

I am using TTI Shorty headers. Work great, loads of clearance especially with the 4 speed as I don't have the collectors hanging down past the frame rails and I was able to lower the car much more. The firewall plate is original factory piece as is the steering column. What k-frame are you using? You may be able to shorten up the section of the lower steering column where the bearing is installed. This will free up more space for your 383 big block install.

AAndrew,
I bought a 67 Barracuda project car that had the front end fabricated with a mustang II rack and tubular upper and lower with Viking shocks and coil overs. I bought some Schumacher headers and they definitely will not work. The rack and headers come in contact. I am going to try a set of shorty headers.

Thanks for the info.

Steve

So.. after 18 years I finally got the opportunity get some pics cruising with my brother. That's his 2007 Shelby GT 500, 690 hp.

We did a fairly long drive and I am very satisfied at how I was able to stay with him , especially in the twisties. The Cuda handles extremely well and I had no problem staying with him except for the straights where his 6 speed tremec took over. My 4-speed and 391's were no match there. As well, can't come close to his fuel mileage. The positives for me? My car sounds much better ..real deep mopar rumble and.. there are very few Cuda's like mine around so I get a lot more head swings!!

The building in the background in where we both started school so I thought it would make a great background.

Hope you like the pics!
Cheers!!

Great pictures.

Thanks qkcuda,

I've waited along time to do this ,just turned 60 this year so this was on my bucket list of things to do.

Next year I plan to do a GoPro video of a run with both cars. Stay tuned!!

As qkcuda said, those are great pics! Nice to hear you are happy with your build as well. Awesome job!

Thanks 4spdragtop!

I'm having a blast! Too bad the season here is so short. Next years project is to get this video thing sorted out. I plan to do some live cruising video including "performance driving segments" to document my car and how it was used and performed for posterity. GoPro in excellent for this.

Question for you guys..

I'm trying to approximately calculate what rpm my engine will run if I switch to 3.55 gears. I am running a 4 speed with factory gearing and a 255/40R 18 rear tire. Seems that I saw a formula on here for calculating this. This will help me decide if I am going to run a GV overdrive with my present 3:91's or swap to the 3:55's .
Thanks for any help!!

Google reilly motor sports, they have a nice rpm calculator

Glad to help!!

Just noticed where you are from, beautiful island, I've been there twice!!

Ya, its a pretty cool place to live. Downside is a short car season although I do get to spend a lot of time in the garage at the car !!

Well.. here I am in the dead of winter in this part of Canada so time to address some of the issues I have to deal with . Tach not reading properly, oil gauge reading too low, gas gauge all over the place, definitely not accurate sooo ... sending the whole cluster out to be completely checked over and recalibrated. Before/after pics to follow...

Finally !!!

Supercuda is finished!!

Had the car out last night for the first run and it went flawless !! Extremely responsive engine and the RMS suspension with the rack and pinion steering makes for an unbelievable ride!. What a difference between the old torsion bars and manual drum brakes... totally blown away!! Also the addition of the 4-speed from the auto trans is just magic.

Here's some pics of ole Supercuda just before leaving the "Stable" for the last time. Go Pro video to follow...
