Before my '65 Valiant four door 273 become an all out bracket racer, I drove up to Fremont Raceway (80 miles one-way) circa 1973 to run it pure stock in two-barrel form, street tires, 7 1/4 rear end. I was turned away when the tech inspector found I had no seat belts.

I believe in '65 seat belts would have been standard equipment, so a previous owner must have ditched them for some reason.

But I have been kicked out of drag strips for……in no particular order……

Expired belts/harnesses
Expired helmet (old motorcycle helmet)
To fast without a cage
To fast without a chassis cert
To fast without a competition license
No trans blanket
Leaking ****. Lol
Arguing that I didn’t leak ****. Lol

Wasn't kicked out, but had to quickly replace a windshield when my car had a windshield crack and I was going to go drag racing. Didn't think a small crack on the side would make a difference. I also almost got denied for neutral safety switch which I don't think my car (87 dodge Daytona) had as standard equipment? But they let me go.

They also pestered me for a driveshaft hoop and long wheel studs since I was running slicks, but the 87 Daytona was front wheel drive so that didn't apply.

My favorite one was too loud! LOL that was my last pass through the night and I still brag about that time slip! LOL
I cut most of them off at the pass but I did miss a ground strap on the fuel cell which they just said do that next time and also small Loops for the traction bars- do it next time and I always do and what's nice is the next time I show them and they don't look at anything else.

I've never been turned away. But I have had them tell me "what they'd like to see" next time. :D I try to comply. For years, my tech inspector would ask "any changes"? I'd say nope - and on I'd go without lifting the hood. If I said yes, they ask "what", and sometimes it was something they wanted to see, most times they'd say ok.

If you are proud of the fact that you have been rejected by a tech official , I don't want you next to me in the lane . If you have to , you can call ahead of time and ask what they are looking for . That's why they are there . To help . Oh, yeah , I forgot , there is such a thing as a RULE BOOK .

I had a great conversation with a cop back in the late 80's about seatbelts in a 1963 VW beetle I had. He tried to tell me it should have shoulder belts not just lap belts. What an asshat!

-One time, I didn't have an overflow catch for the radiator. I used a plastic water bottle and some wire to secure it. Tech was Ok with it and let me race.
-Another time, I was missing a lug nut because the stud broke off. I went home and super-glued the broken stud and lug nut back on and went racing the next week. (stupid stuff we do when we're 19) :)

The reason you didn't pass inspection is because you live in a place that has been taken over by Communist regimes that take liberties with your private property and tell you what to do. I am glad they don't inspect nor emissions check anything in my area.

I have an opposite story...

lived in So Cal, bought a stock 56 Ford Pickup, had to get it smogged once at purchase, brought it to state smog check facility, facility was an indoor type of facility, sat in passenger seat (that was the procedure back when) while tech ran engine up to speeds etc, room and cab filled with smoke, I asked how I got a waver, he said you don't need one you passed! Fell over laughing!

Recovery tank for radiator. Second throttle spring. Both fixes on the spot.

I'm all for being safety and believe in tech. But I've dealt with some techs who acted like God. My first run in was when I drove my Road Runner over an hour to the strip. Pulled up to the tech line. A little fluid spilled out of my overflow. A guy comes over screaming at me to get my crap box off his road. Then told if so much a drip comes out of my car I won't be racing. Just then a Camaro with a steady stream of fluid drives by heading to the staging lanes. I pointed this out and he flips out even more on me. Telling me to mind my own business. Then he comes over to inspect my car. He locks my seatbelt together then puts his foot on my seat and then rips up on the belt. WTF! Great way to treat someone's car.

I would have stood on him and pulled on his head if he would have done that in my car!

Holy smokes! It was the guy in the other lane damn it and they threw me out!
Crap my good memories are all wiped out now. :BangHead:

^^^^it was the last past of the night anyways but I left with a smile thinking I got kicked out on my way out....

It's the closest track and they want you under a hundred three decibels after 10 at night. It's a little to close to residential. But of course at Woodburn it's all out...
Same thing sort of happened at Byron Dragway. Residents built around the strip then complained about noise.
