I am building a 512 Rb block with a 727 in a 1973 scamp. I will have 3.91 gears in an *8.75 rear. I am in the process of rebuilding the trans and have the transgo tr-2 shift kit installed.

This will be a street/strip application. I will be running a Holley Super Sniper EFI kit. Hoping for ate least 550 HP. Pretty sure that will suffice.

What shifters do you use that perform well at the strip and also around town?
Thanks for any help.

I really grew to like my Cheetah shifter, you can get different gates for them for forward/ reverse pattern.

I'm a gear Banger for sure I have a 4 Speed. but when I have an automatic I do like the b&m Quicksilver slapstick shifter. It gives me that slap action that I like. Of course along with that I put a full manual shift kit a transgo stage 3.

I have used a B&M Star Shifter in my Dart for decades. I picked it because it uses regular detant shifting like a factory shifter most of the time, but put it in first, pick up the t-handle and it drops into rachet shift mode. no missed gears! They have been around for a long time and parts are easy to come by. I have found them to be extremely dependable and worry free.

B&M Quick Silver. I have had it in 2 cars works great, never failed me.

I had a quicksilver for years in my street / strip 10 second dart. Loved it! I eventually fell victim however to the "drag cars shouldn't have ratchet shifters" BS....so I put in a cheetah, and I really dont like it at all. I really miss my b&m. I'd go quicksilver again in a minute.

I took the advise on buying the cheeta shifter, it is a little hard to get used to, but is maybe the best aftermarket shifter I have ever used.
I have used quite a few diff. ones over the yrs too!

Just to add more choices, I'm really digging this shifter (Kwik-Shift II) Pretty trick, lots of optional upgrades, yet utterly simple and foolproof. Performance Shifters - Precision Performance Products

I bought one of those off a guy and when I talked to the guys at PPP found out that it was for a GM and they could convert it but it was to expensive so I sold it and just kept my B&M

the B/M pro ratchet I had in my vega was the worst one I ever had , had to let go of the shifter handle , push a lever that was too far away to do it with one hand/or use two hands, and ratchet the shifter all the way back to neutral to clean the engine out , after a burn out= sucked !

At one point a few years ago I had the Cheetah shifter, I really liked it and if I ever go back to auto, I will get another one.

I've always liked the stock console shifter, slightly re-worked . RMVB
Tuned and tested lotsa vehicles with fancy shifters, couldn't find one that shifted any better. jmo

Hope you don't mind me jumping on the wagon here, but imI interested in shifters as well and wanted to know if front cable exit or rear cable exit is better?

Wow, Lots of choices. Thanks for the feedback. Now I need to do even more homework than I thought I needed to do.

I did too until I went MVB. I even bought a gate someone made for it, but didn't like it, either

Its funny that is subjective as muffler preference...or oil brands. Lol. I guess you should try and drive, or at least sample first hand before buying.

Pro ratchet for me. Zero issues for me. I can flip the neutral release with my fingers and my palm still on the **** knob.
What I realy like is the fact that the shifter snaps right back to where it was. When I'm fully strapped in I DO NOT want the shifter moving away from me. I also dont want to think about shifting. I just bang the handle, it snaps right back and bang it again.

I'm not reaching for the handle or thinking about pulling the lever or moving out of the gate.

It just works for me.

The only down side is I had to buy the knob with the button. A.race shifter should have come out of the box with the button.
