Anyone else get a tax statement from Summit Racing?

No one can be surprised that they figured out how to get money from us on internet purchases. They were losing money with all these large corporations closing their doors because of internet sales and free shipping devastating walk in business. My wife and I went on a Saturday to the local mall and there was like half the businesses gone completely. Like 15 people walking around. Every employee sitting there bored and on their phone. Zero sales of anything, well I bought a taco and ate it there and an ice cream cone on the way out the door. My wife said the one up north she went to with here mom was booming, but then again their local population is 10 times ours and it borders Washington state. So gets the Vancouver population as well.
Internet lost it’s charm.

Going to the local store again may re-surface!
I try to shop the little shops as much as I can, my son gets so mad sometimes when I remind him that paying a few more dollars to give a local small shop his business is how we are going to keep them open and here.

The greedy bastards will find anyway to be sure they get the money for their pet programs.

Bad thing is most them are worth millions and do it just to keep their OWN money and POWER! They could better serve us by being as “generous” as most of us are! A few of them do just that, but not as many as one would Hope!

That said I always try to support my local community if at all practical. Sometimes you need something faster!

Always lived by a statement from my Father though. “What’s not right is not Permanent”! Change is inevitable but not always permanent!

Saw one of these notices today for something the wife bought last year. I know we didn't buy anything big online this year. No clue how many little things did not charge tax and will turn it in though. Guess we will hold off filing state (PA)for a bit.

PA has required tax payment on out of state purchases for at least 20 years, but it is an honor system for the tax payer to report and pay. By now requiring these notices be sent out, it is one step closer to being a documented system to force you to pay the tax you have always owed.

The tax law hasn’t changed, just the wiggle room to avoid paying it is narrowing.

Like collecting taxes at a swap meet.
I have a friend that sells at swap meets. He might sell $20,000 at the Nats. Why should he not have to pay when I have to pay with my business. It's all about being fair. Millions of dollars are lost in each state because of e-commerce sales.

Lets just go back to the barter system. Of course I am sure they would find a way to tax that too.

Ok...then fix you own roads that you drive on, provide fire fighting and rescue services for yourself and your neighbors, pay for the schools and teachers, provide drinking water and sewer services and Police services and prisons out of that barter system.

That’s why we have taxes. It’s a community effort to provide services for all. Have a better way to do all that? Run for office and make your proposal. Good luck.

I've got a well and septic, own a gun so I can defend myself, own a 4wd and a tractor, so who needs a road, got a garden hose so I can put out my own fire, raise cattle, chickens and a garden. My kids are out of school. So, I can be self sufficient and reliant. Not my problem if there are people who cant fo that. Oh, and I hate my neighbors cause they are drug addicts, so why pay taxes to support lops of ***** that cant provide for themselves? Cause they ain't working or paying taxes. Maybe if we weren't supporting illegal immigrants with the taxes we get forced to pay I'd be more in. But hey, that's just my opinion.

That said, I'm happy to support education, senior citizens services, mental health services, first responders, military, legal immigration, and overall a well working community, state and country. I don't even have a problem paying my taxes, heck i do on time and in full. If the taxes we paid were actually used to make America as a whole stronger, that would be great. But when I see dozens of homeless people, so many which are veterans, and a slew of other problems but we squabble as a nation over petty issues. I'm sorry if I said anything offensive to anyone, not my intention.

Then unplug your computer, turn off your power and create your own electricity and internet and hope others living on their little islands do the same so you can connect with someone somewhere...maybe.

Infrastructure isn’t free but if you believe you can do with out it, then do without ALL of it.

Then there is your opportunity to step up and lead. Create the change you want to see. Run for office, support candidates that you think will change things...anything at all. We the People create the laws and We the People can change them...by action.

I worked for the state legislation for 15 years in the state capital building. Every day for 15 years literally. I've seen and heard exactly how things get done, or don't for that matter. I went out permanently disabled two years ago and have never gone back. I used to always tell people that the only thing constant there is change. It's a fast paced, full steam ahead environment. I loved it, greatest 15 years of my life. The people are great, maybe not all their p.o.v.'s but in general their dedication to the people of the state. So honestly I know so much more about it than you can imagine. Lol, I teasingly say to you, your preaching to the choir. Been there, done that my friend.

I will gladly pay tax on anything I buy. I think that's the proper way to tax.
You don't want to pay tax on goods and services. don't buy and don't use.
caveman principles apply.

I aint paying **** they can kiss my *** or come find me. They tax my labor, and then take more tax of the money ive already been taxed on, on the **** i buy.

Come to california, check out all the illegals abusing the system for yourself. you can see it in damn near every store. it pisses me off to no end. my rant is over.

It's the same in Oregon too. Our governor is a sanctuary state supporter. Now they just introduced a bill to take away any gun with a capacity over 5 rounds, no more than 20 bullets allowed in your possession. Only allowing you to be able to buy 20 a month. With fines and jail time if you fail to comply. And they expect you to surrender your current guns and ammo that don't meet those standards. I do love Oregon, but dang they are getting weird and scary with the laws they are trying to get through.

Hopefully that will never pass. The bill or at least the specifics were written by teenagers who are part of the “march for our lives” movement. The David Hogg following.

I got one from Summit and Eastwood. Same basic form letter. The only difference is Summit says they will start collecting sales tax for my state at the time of purchase going forward in 2019.

It’s the, “Oh, and we reported your purchases to your department of Revenue” that’s the icing. The ironic thing is, if the states actually use their resources to go after people who owe them sales/use tax, they’ll spend way more $ than the relatively few dollars in taxes they collect.

And many sellers are confused or using the change as an opportunity. I won an Ebay bid last week for an item and the seller added 9.5% sales tax as they are in Oakland, CA. I messaged them that my states sales tax is 5.25% and they said they now have to charge 9.5. I also called a place in Seattle to order some parts today and they were going to charge me 9.6% tax. I told them my state has 5.25% state sales tax and they told me they were required to charge the local tax. They said the new law is written that tax is charged at the point title to the goods transfers. In Washington goods transfer at the point of sale, not delivery. When I told them I would pay 5.25% but not more they politely declined my business.

Sales tax is charged where the item is sold not where you live. If you were vacationing in Oakland and bought a souvenir. You would pay their tax rate (9.5%) and not your 5.25% rate from your hometown.

Agree, but internet sales tax should be based on the buyers state! That’s what I believed the newer law stated. Like said though it is really going to upset some folks, and certainally if they do not pay attention to any tax statements they may be sent. Ingnore them you may, but the compounding interest + penalties will hurt!

Glad to see Summit and maybe more fessed up and would start charging that for the few they were not.

But the Supreme Court ruling on the Wayfair case, which has caused this, allows states to require internet sellers to charge tax for the state the buyer lives in. Look up South Dakota vs Wayfair.
24 states have implemented laws requiring tax. 24 states will have online sales tax laws in effect as of Dec. 1
So now some states have seen that the buyer's state gets to benefit and are trying to collect the tax for the seller's location based on state laws that require sales tax to take effect at the point of title transfer. This leads to the confusion I mentioned in my previous post

Lets go back to post 46. What went wrong with Grimreaper's transaction? It appears no one knows exactly how tax should be charged on internet purchases.
