I would love to see the details on the coal stove build, was that an old milk tank? I hope my son wants to buy that type of thing when he is older! I love the older bridgeport machines, but the you could do almost anything and then some with that bed mill.

@Oldmanmopar I've spent a lot of my life with Bridgeport milling machines but never one so clean and purdy. Did have digital readout, power feed drives, and got paid too.
I don't miss the labor as much as I miss the mind that was capable.
That stove is eye candy too. Thanks for sharing

Oooooooo a self contained Hot Rod Shop~!

Green with envy.....

My son completely rebuild the bridgport. It took him One week. We have several for parts so every thing was here. He removed the old DRO a new one is on it way. The bed mill is in use but as you see the series two needs to be hooked up. He is setting it up for installing seats and guides. A fixture he is working on to hold Hemi heads.

He drove to Angolia pa for the Peterson hone. When he got there he found out it was a Mopar Machine shop. He bought a fixture to fix/true and install bronzes lifter bore.

My son is freinds with Ray and David Barton. Their bed mill is always tied up for months. I know he is planning a mega block build and don't trust anyone but himself. The only problem with machinists is everything they do has to be perfect. If he was to build a house every board would be within a thousandths. When he sees me Eyeballing things he terminates my
job station and sends me packing. Here are a couple more of the jammed garage

The second picture is from the craigs list add where we bought it. We went to Frostburg Maryland for it.

The water tray was shot so we removed it. My son made the surround out of stainless sheets he got at a scrap yard. We have a plasma cam so that is how he cut the holes in the stainless and the angles for the cone. The cone is a air vent that goes to duct work for heat. The total investment was Less than $1000. Duct work, Stainless stove pipe, Duct fan and all.

The stove burns Coal or wood. I have two others if someone wants Heat!!!!! . You can keep all the windows and doors open in the garage if you open the hot blast door on the stove. Its a 2 story garage with a man cave upstairs. That is heated with a oil furnace. It hasn't come on since we installed the wood/coal stove downstairs.

All three stoves I have came from big buildings. The Northampton hotel The Bath Hotel. And a ware house in Frostburg MD.. If you never owned one you don't know what you are missing. I have always had one in my shops since the 70's. What ever you put in comes out in ashes. You need to forge something you put it in the coals.

If i could find one, i’d run it.
That thing is old school cool.

All kidding aside, though, I have to say you really did something right for your son to become skilled at that level.

I am proud of what he can do. He has built some wild motors at the shop he worked for. He likes doing it so he is buying all the equipment.
It all started with racing slot cars. Then it went to dirt bikes and ATV's nationally. We owned and raced a 600 Micro sprint Those things are super super Fast but a money pit. Now we are Going Drag racing.

We couldn't have asked for better Kids. The trailer they built is unbelievable. From the excavator to a Lowered Acura Integra to a dually Diesel 4 door. I seen it all on that trailer.Rated a 14000.
