LDR working man drag radial class

Glad that he wasn’t hurt too badly, I hope! I hate seeing someone lose their car like that, but glad he’s back out there doing what he loves, even faster. It becomes an obsession and an addiction, nothing like it!
 
Here’s another buddy’s Chevelle. Procharged 582 street car. It’s been 5.20’s with a 1.24 60’ time
 
I myself am guilty of wanting to drive a top alcohol funny car, just not on drag radials. Back when Bristol was still IHRA, that and Pro-Mod were my favorite classes to watch. I really miss the old track there! The new one is great for the street fight drags and everything, but the old track surface made it so much more of a drivers race.

I definitely have the wrong job if a car that can run 4.20's is considered a "working mans car". It takes a damn good car to race in the 4.20's, there are some that can make a fast "hero" pass but won't live long being pushed that hard.

No doubt! Let’s be honest and say a reasonable ride that lasts is the working mans hot rod/race car that isn’t going to be a strip terror. Maybe a beast on the street. If you have an honest low 12 mid 11 second ride it can probably be driver a lot, raced on weekends and not need a lot of service yearly. More than likely be a N/A engine.

I don’t know what it takes to make a 8 second ride cost wise much less actually race it often or campaign it around the region. But I can say this with confidence, I would be putting that money into the house. Remodeling or mortgage pay off.

I spend a couple of grand (2-3) max on the ride. I have way to much going on in life to spend on.
 
Once it starts costing a whole years income, I'm out!
 
Mine is just a street car we shall see how fast it goes, Mad dart started and me to finish. Hope to be done soon and running.

25K and some patience will get you a 5.20 car. Not a pile of junk but also won't have all top shelf parts. And that price is not a Mopar. Were talking something late model (gm,ford)and most likely will have a couple of stages of gas on it. Someone may have a firesale and unload a boosted car in that price range but they will be few and far between....

A 4.20 car that can get the job done is going to be atleast 100k. And I seriously doubt one can be had that cheap unless once again someone is having a firesale......

There is no economical way to race heads up. I have been around it long enough to see the money fly and it flys,burns, melts, and vanishes each and every pass lol....

What size turbos? What fuel? Any intercooler?

76mm, going to be tuned to both pump and c12, intercoolers are like yours twin air/water tucked inside the front of the fenders.
What do you have on yours? Your set up looks awesome by the way.

The same. I have two Precision 7675CEAs with the billet wheels and ball bearing center sections. The hemi is a 540 cube all aluminum piece.

No, those are $8K, lol. This is a world products block that I scored new for $3500. 4.50 bore x 4.250 stroke. Crower center counterweight crank, Oliver rods, Diamond pistons, Edelbrock heads, Bullet solid roller cam, dry sump oiling and a cable drive fuel pump.

That looks awesome can't wait to see what it does. Mine is a 427cid small block, ritter block, scat crank and rods, diamond pistons, ported ede magnum, crower custom roller cam. My turbos are from on3 performance.

How much power you looking to make with that setup?

The most I’ve ever seen these turbos make is 2000fwhp. I’ll be happy if I get anywhere near 1800.
I built a 440” Edelbrock Victor headed 48 degee R3 that I really wanted to strap these 76’s on. The 76s would be a much better match for the smaller cube engine. I’m a big fan of those 48 degree SBM!
 
Yeah I wish I did go 48, and mines still the stock 59. Finally found the roller lifters that fit perfect. Oh well, my first small block build, always done big block.
I'm hoping for at or close to 1000 on pump and 1600 on c12.

I remember the early days of 10 1/2 " tire classes............the idea was to keep it affordable and the logic was that you could only throw so much power at this size tire.
This was 2005 or so , I was at Houston Motorsports Park spectating.
632 inch Gene Fulton BBC's with four stages of spray were the norm , but small Fords with hair dryers as big around as 5 gallon pails were also running with them.
There is nothing cheap about them.
But 4.20 is definitely not entry level performance either , so if you are building a car for this class , you probably have a good idea of how empty your wallet is gonna be when you get there.
 
Affordable drag racing is bracket racing.

There is always someone bigger and badder. I don't think there is any solution to changing that curve.... In every class I have ever seen someone shows up with a couple of bucks and takes everything to the next level. And unfortunately for alot of racers they don't realize how far they have gone to get the number they think they need only to realize it still isn't enough..... Makes for fun times as a spectator with a grill going on the sidelines anyhow lol....

The people who think this new class is for the "workin man" must be in league with the mainstream media that thinks "middle class" starts at 75K dollars.
 
The owner of the fox body LDR car that I built works for the USPS. The other 2400hp mustang I help with is owned by a service tech at a dealership. Both are hard working middle class guys. You don’t have to be a millionaire to do this but I’m sure it helps.
