Hey guys,
I am running a Torker on my 383 now and the hood clearance with a stock silenced air cleaner (the style air cleaners that run the 383 Magnum pie pan) is fine. I would like to switch to an Performer RPM #7186. I have a flat hood on my 68 Dart. The intakes highest point is about 1.20 " taller than the Torker. Wondered if anyone had experience with this combo. Mancini sells a 1" drop base for my stock air cleaner setup. Didn't know if that would clear my Holley Double Pumper as well. Also, my engine is mounted with small block to big block conversion mounts. Thanks

Hey 68 4 door,

I had the same problem when using a factory unsilenced air cleaner with a 360 Magnum engine, also with an eddie performer intake. Ordered the Mancini drop base. Worked perfect!

I don't have a Dart, but I am running the Performer RPM on my Barracuda with a drop base and an open air cleaner. It just barely fits! I tried putting a new hood insulation pad on and the hood wouldn't close, so I don't have much room to spare! If I went to a bit shorter filter, it would clear.

Here's an older pic of mine from when I redid my valve covers before swapping out the cooling system.

Play Doh!!!! Not just for kids anymore!!

Just place some large round balls of Play Doh on top of your air cleaner and close the hood. Let it sit for a few seconds then lift your hood and measure the thickness of the Play Doh....that will tell you how much clearance you have then add the 1 inch for the drop base or if you have at least 1.2 inches clearance you should be good to go or maybe you'll only need 1/2" drop base??? treblig

I have a 440 with a performer intake in my duster. I had to run a 10” air cleaner because it’ll only fit if it goes up inside of my hood scoop.

Exactly what I used! A little over an inch clearance with the Mancini drop base.

I have a 400/470" with the Performer RPM in 69 Bcuda with a drop base air cleaner assembly and a flat hood. Fits just fine

Who’s drop bass and how much of a drop?
Anything under the carb? Thick gasket/spacer?

Sorry..this things been together for a while so I don't remember exact suppliers. The drop base was just a Mc filter housing likely from Summit with their version of the K&N style filter assembly/top. Nothing fancy...... I'm cheap...lol. Underneath is a Holley 800 DP bolted directly on the intake using a thin base gasket....no spacers, etc. Hope that helps a little??

Yes indeed thanks.

FWIW....

On my wife’s ‘67, 360 powered Cuda, I have a Mancini drop base on top of a AFB/Weiand Stealth.
The filter is a WIX paper filter, part number 42044 @ 2-11/16 thick and the near perfect fit for the ribbed MP air cleaner @ 12-13/16 diameter.
Minor wiggle room to move the filter within the air cleaner base. Plenty of room to the hood insulation pad. No touch.

I guess I am not the only one who plays with play doh. Mine just fits with the Street Dominator intake. I just ordered the Mancini drop base and a 3/4 inch taller K&N air filter.

Oh you mean the filters lid exchanged out for a lid that is a filter.

I am 100% behind that!

You guys think u have clearance problems!
I just put a victor intake on my 68 fastback, that has ''raised'' port alum. heads, the throttle body is up in the 6 pack scoop .
I`m finalizing the throttle and kickdown set up now, "not tested yet" , and trying to figure out how to seal the throttle body to the underside of the hood , 'WITH A FILTER !" Got a filter worked out at least temporarily, but the 2'' dropped in front pan, that's got a lesser drop in the rear, to match the under hood contour is eluding me so far . Also has to be an offset pan to match the 16" hole in the center of the hood , under the 6 pack scoop.

I'm sure that everybody wishes that they had your problem.......

I will be attempting to install my hood this weekend with a victor intake and 950 carb. Doesn’t looks promising, but have an extra flat hood that can be cut if needed. Andrew
