1970 Dodge Dart

if im not mistaken AMD makes a lower quarter patch panel and its pretty affordable. I wouldn't buy a whole quarter unless it really needed it. that's a lot of work! The F3 green isn't a bad color. I decided if i was repainting the entire car i was gonna go with something BOLD. My other choice was that sexy Burnt Orange they're putting on some of the newer Dodge RAM's

Yeah they make a patch but I can make it cheaper on the left side. On the right side, unfortunately I have wheel opening issues. That orange is what I painted my 1970 Honda CL350 with!

very cool! id love to see it

Thanks!

It was a low mileage barn find bike, 1800 miles, but had been used as a farm "fence runner." In 2015 before the restoration I was test driving it after some work and the test drive turned into a long ride out in the country. On the way back the rear tire had a blowout at about 55. I remember losing control, regaining control, then waking up in an ambulance. I had a helmet on but still suffered a bad concussion. The bike was totaled but I had replacement cost coverage on it. I got a little over $3200 because of the low miles so I was bale to buy a touring scooter and parts to restore the bike.

That picture is from 2 days after I got it put back together from the paint booth. Me and a buddy drove our old bikes out to Colorado. Mine made it 1000 miles exactly before the right piston developed a dime sized hole in it about 100 miles from home. That was 2017. I have a whole parts bike so I put that engine in it, ignored the sound of a bad timing chain, took it for a ride, and the timing chain broke about a mile from home.

So now it sits in my cramped garage while I work on my Dart. It even creased the back of my hood last time I jacked the rear end up not looking what I was doing. :BangHead:

This bike is going to be the death of me!

The po must have been a pos . Great job, keep going . Satisfaction comes from resurrecting a great piece of American history /

i think he just didn't know quite what he had, hed bought it off someone to help them out of a pickle and then sold it to get his $ back. Hes helped me find a good bit of parts to fix her up too.

Brought her back home today from paint :) Now on to reassembly!

So, got a bit of work done since my last posting. Found a nice set of bucket seats with very good upholstery for $100

(yes, I know they aren't factory mopar. I'm not paying 500+ for rotted out seats that still need 600$ worth of upholstery work done)

Got Seat sliders on order, gonna fab up new brackets because I don't like the ones the seats came with.

Also installed an aftermarket JEGS 5 position tilt steering collumn with Grant steering wheel and Mopar Horn button.

Also painted my marker light housings and reinstalled them on the car.

Started Installation of the Painless Performance wiring harness on the freshly blacked out engine bay.
Got all the wires grouped and laid out where they need to go roughly.
Front Brake Hard Lines installed where they need to go.
We also had a reverse manual valve body installed in the 727 Transmission.
The only thing keeping us from dropping the motor and transmission back in the car is we need a torque converter that will bolt up to the 360 Magnum flex plate
(it should be here soon thanks to a fellow forum member)

I got it for 50$ off on black friday at Jegs or Summit, can't remember which now. It really is painless, so easy to install. Every single wire is labeled to where it goes.

Heres a tech tip on the harness, as i installed 2 of the painless harnesses before. One in a 60 el camino, and one in a 63 dodge town panel. Get a bunch of wire bread ties to hold the wiring together as you group and route it. Makes things easier. When satisfied with its routing remove the ties one at a time as you wrap the harness. Also wire up one circuit at a time, then only connect power to test that circuit. One circuit at a time. Make sure all of it works prior to wrapping the harness and terminating the ends. Leave a service loop before terminating the wire ends this way if you have to repair a connector later you have some extra wire to do that.

On the magnum heads i would get visegrip plyers and jerk those sparkplug tubes out of there. They can become a real pain in the *** with stuck spark plugs on a magnum. Ask me how i know.

PM me if you want a bunch of new bread twist ties , and i will send em to you.

Today was the BIG Day, just shy of a full year in the making. Motor and Transmission are fully rebuilt/dressed/ INSTALLED!!!

Not much to say in words, the reinstall went swiftly without incident or injury. I'll Let photos do the rest of the talking now.

Another shop day. Aluminum radiator and electric fan mounted in the car, bought a brand new alternator and mounted it up as well.
Ordered a new master cylinder, new minie starter, and a set of Dougs long tube headers as well.

Almost finished with the new gauge cluster.
I have a wee little bit of touch up to do with a paint brush to make everything perfect.
So what I did here was take an original factory cluster and cut out the back of it along with all the old messed up gauges.
Then I took a sheet of aluminum and cut new holes for the new digital gauges I bought.
Once the gauges were fit I prepped and primed everything then taped it all off in several steps to get the desired effect.
Pretty happy with it especially considering its my first try on something like this ever.
Really excited to see it installed back in the car with all the gauges wired up and working.

Purists are gonna lynch me over this build i swear...haha
