Tried to remove the nut on a 1965 Barracuda using a 1/4 inch open end wrench on the cable and a deep socket and ratchet on the nut, with liquid wrench. Before I got it off, almost developed a blister so I quit and decided to use double nuts on the Dodge Dakota that I need the nut for (the NOS tensioner I purchased for the Dakota did not include the nut=just great).

The nut turns, but feels like a breaker bar is in order or an impact wrench lol.

You must be on the coast. I wouldnt think Mexican cars would corrode much ....
Try heat.

We are talking about the cable nut under the rear of car...correct?

Ya, it's a 50 year old car and has probably never been loosened. Welcome to our life up here in the rust belt.

Wire brush the threads on the adjuster to remove as much corrosion as possible since that will jam up the threads. you will have to alternately tighten and loosen the nut as you go a little more each time you loosen. And use lots of penetrating oil. I would start by tightening the nut back up off the threads that are trying to jam it up, then clean the threads off as well as you can before proceeding. I would recommend using 2 stainless steel nuts to use as jam nuts, and some anti sieze when it goes back together, or just buy a new cable from rock auto.
